Kohli's use of pacers on Day 2 was the difference

I just came back on ICf after few weeks and noticed too much unnecessary criticism for Kohli earlier for using seamers on Day 2.

This shows that when team is in any bad position (like it was earlier on day 1 when we got bowled out for 180ish), people start finding ways to make someone a scapegoat.

It was actually day 2 bowling changes which won us this game. Tell me how many times a team will only score 190 runs in day without losing all their wickets? India did that to Australia and applied pressure with pacers and spinners from each end. Letting them to score just 190 odd runs was brilliant by India and hence Kohli used his bowlers correctly.

Yes Jadeja should have bowled more but not on the expense of a pacer but for may be instead of Ashwin at times.

So stop criticising Kohli.

He captained brilliantly in this game.

Wht a win.

Its a slow wicket everyone scored at at slow rate

In first innings we scored even slower rate.If anything that day ,awful usage of Jadeja nearly cost us the game and gave Aussies 87 run lead.Huge advantage on a wicket like this.

We won because of that incredible partnership between Rahane and Pujara .Incredible 120 run partnership when we were down and out.

If anything that made the difference it was that partnership.

Everyone knows about that p'ship.

This thread is about how people were critizing Kohli for using Seamers. You guys calling him clueless and how because of his captaincy we will lose by an innings etc.  When clearly it wasn't wrong to use seamers. Even today every time seamer came I noticed some anger. Yes we are defending low scores and our strength is spin but not every time Ashwin is going to be bowling good. Hence it is fine to let seamers bowl too who can be at times as good.

We have to start respecting pacers instead

of always talking crap about them and get angry whenever they show up to bowl.

Not bowling Jadeja enough was a ridiculous decision no matter what. The pitch then was not this up and down and there was no reverse for a long time, so pacers would be ineffective.

As I posted before, Kohli is not strategically that good, but makes that up with his leadership qualities.

It was a stupid decision and reflected in us conceding 87 run lead and nearly lost the game.

Today it was K because Umesh was picking wickets and looking threatening .That's the difference.

You can't say second day was good when we end up giving 87 run lead. That is huge on a pitch like this.

So you mean to say that it was okay to bowl Jaddu for only 4 overs in first 55 overs when you have only 4 bowlers. The pitch was doing a lot for spinners on first 2 days and then settled a bit on Day 3, so no excuse underbowling Jaddu so much who took 6 fer. We could have bowled them out 40 or 50 runs short in 1st innings.

You didn't read the op. I said Jaddu should have bowled instead of Ashwin at times.

Kohli used the pacers well throughout the match

Under-bowled  Jadeja in the first innings.... wrong decision

Very good to see that Kohli  learnt from that mistake quickly and used Jadeja and all other bowlers well in the 2nd innings.

This is what I want to see from captains of Team India.... rectifying mistakes quickly.

Our use of DRS has been better in this test too compared to the first test.  ( Still needs some improvement though )

Just because India won, doesnt mean everyone should excuse the mistakes because then he will likely make them again in the future and there will no chance of improvement. It was obvious he made a blunder by underbowling Jadeja because he thought it would be easier for left handed batsmen to face left arm spinner which is not a rule set in stone and overbowled Ashwin and also the seamers at times. Also he has to get better at making DRS decisions.
