Harbhajan fighting for Nair - Much respect

I have nothing but utmost respect for Harbhajan among all the ex-cricketers. Here he is fighting for Nair and the unfairness of process. Whereas Gaveaskar / Tendulkars have become politicians and helping the Bewdaa get a job Harbhajan is fighting for true justice for nair. he makes valid points:

Senior off-spinner Harbhajan Singh, on Tuesday, said that he is finding it 'difficult to understand' the parameters used by the MSK Prasad-led selection committee for picking the national squad.

After spending time on the bench for six consecutive Test matches against Afghanistan and England, the selectors dropped Karun Nair for the West Indies Test series.

"This is a mystery that needs to be solved. How can a person sitting on the bench for three months become so bad that he is not good enough to remain in the squad," Harbhajan questioned the selection committee's decision.

"Trust me, I am at pains to understand the thinking of this selection committee and the parameters that they are using for selecting national squads," said the man who has over 700 international wickets across formats.

The 'Turbanator' cannot but feel for the young Nair, who remains the only Indian, apart from Virender Sehwag, to have a triple hundred in Test cricket.

"I find different set of rules for different players. There are some who are given a long rope to succeed while for select others they don't even get one chance to fail. That is not fair," Harbhajan said.

Harbhajan then put forth a hypothetical question.

"What if Hanuma Vihari fails in two Test matches against West Indies? Though I would never wish something like that for any player. I wish him (Vihari) all the very best."

"(In case Vihari is not able to deliver) so you will go back to Nair but will he be battle ready with confidence for Australia tour? "

India's third highest wicket-taker then asked a probing question as to whether the team management is on the same page with the selection committee.

"If team management did not play Karun for five Tests, then it means that he couldn't inspire confidence in them."

"Well, my question is whether the selectors were able to convince the captain while naming Karun for England series? If not did they seriously consider the name that team management had in mind," he questioned.

For someone who played international cricket for 18 years, Harbhajan knows very well how poor selection policy can affect the morale and team performance.

"Hope all concerned with team selection undergo course correction before they decide on the Australia tour," he signed off.

Firstly, this  sense less hypocrite MSK Prasad needs to be kicked out from the selection committee at the first place. An utter failure as a player at international  level , how can this dumb ass know about the psychological aspects  that a youngster needs to grow in confidence and  be  more and more of a better all round  multi dimensional batsman??? Him being in the  selection committee  is even more of a  matter that makes  no sense what so ever.

Harbhajan is exactly spot on. Salute the turbanator for showing the boldness to speak the truth. Omission of Nair is extremely of double standard nature. Hacks like Dhawan, Pujara, Rahul, Kartik,Umesh,Ishant  get chances after chances despite  being utter mediocre after playing so many tests.  On the other hand, despite having selected into the team Karun didn't even get minimal share of chances as of now.

I think this management has clear issue with Bangalore players, even Rahul get same kind of treatment in odi and only lately he has been getting regular chances in test. May be something to do with Kumble saga and people endorsed by him.

Hilarious thread.  Who was the chief selector who put Nair in the XVIII for the first 3 tests?  MSKP.  **This** was the big mistake he made because Nair was not lighting it up in FC cricket after the test 300.  During the same period, GHV (along with Shaw and Agarwal) have been piling on the runs, especially in A cricket.  Based on this, GHV was sent for tests 4 and 5.  Once this happened, it is out of MSKP's hands and into VK and RJS' jurisdiction.  They picked GHV and he looked good against a quality attack.

It's time for KN to let his bat, not Harbhajan Singh, do the talking for him.  Pile on the runs, leave no doubt.

To be fair, Nair looked pretty ordinary against pace in the home series against Australia. While the selectors might have included him in the squad based on his domestic form, team management seems to have taken a dim view about his prospects and didn't bother to pick him at all. That being said, I feel they should have tried him for one match just to confirm to themselves that he is not worthy of a spot in the X1. Or they should have fought to not have him in the squad in the first place.

If the team management feels  he is ordinary, he will rightly prove himself to be ordianary if given a few more chances. But now that he is selected , he deserves a few more chances.

How? Wasnt Nair got picked for England tour and Vihari was only a replacement.

Vihari was playing his first 'A' tour at that point of time. Ofcourse, they couldn't have him at the beginning of the England series. It would look suspicious.

How many opportunities did Nair got after he made that 300? How many players have even scored 300 for India?

Did they give similar treatment to the likes of Dhawan and Rahane when they were failing series after series? It took 5-6 years to oust Dhawan from Test team after repeated failures and it only took couple of games to oust Nair. Didn't Kohli also fail in the England first tour?
