Ankit_sharma03
Last round to claim a WC spot begins with Aus Series The battles 1. Shankar vs rayudu (team mngt looks very impressed with him and he looks damn solid) 2. DK vs pant ( cameo king vs special talent) 3. Krunal vs Jadeja 4. Rahul vs shaw vs mayank vs rahane (the backup opener) 5. Khaleel vs shardul vs umesh vs kaul (4th seamer) Others have thread so this was the one that was remaining . Its clear dhoni will go anyone wants to waste time on that go ahead for others Pant Vs DK Link to comment
Khota
At this stage this is tough one. Strictly based on what we are seeing both are 1a and 1b. Link to comment
SK_IH
Pant , however not any high expectations from him but let's move on from DK. Link to comment
speedheat
I 'll go for pant. Fearless hitter, today he showed what he is capable of was 23 off jus 6 at one stage. Link to comment
Ankit_sharma03
Ill go with pant, i dont expect consistency but he is a special player and on his day he can win u the game from any situation. DK can win u but only from a certain situation so Pant ahead of him for me. Also pant is starting to have a dominating aura around him in the world and he will do his reputation a gr8 good by the time IPL ends Link to comment
Adi BB
I'd take pant anyday ,he will be the surprise factor maybe like fakhar zaman in CT. We can use pant as a pinch hitter as well when required Link to comment
saik
1.Shankar - better batsman and can also bowl. 2.Dk vs Pant: Still undecided. Dk seems good as a finisher. Pant is yet to prove his talent in this format.Maybe Dhoni can be rested for the Aus series and both of them can be given chances. 3.Krunal. 4.Shaw. 5.Umesh seems the best from the worst. prasen82
i am a DK supporter, but will go with Pant due to X factor. DK can come in if pant fails midway in WC. i would however take all 3 to WC( dhoni ofc) Ideal 11 Dhawan,Rohit,Kohli,Pant,Dhoni,Jadhav,Pandya,Kuldeep,Shami,Chahal,Bumrah. rest 4 for WC squad will be BK, DK, Rayudu, Vijayshankar. If Dhoni starts crapping midway replace with vijayshankar. we dont have a back up opener and probably it will be rayudu. Cricketics 1 Link to comment
Gollum
Pant easily, DK isn't an ODI option....tbh he won't get into any of the top 9 teams in the world. Link to comment

Jimmy Cliff
Pant obviously for me but I see these 12 as certainties in the squad. Rohit Dhawan Kohli Rayudu Dhoni Jadhav Pandya H BK Kuldeep Shami Bumrah Chahal There is no battle between Rayudu and Shankar AFAIC with Rayudu being a guaranteed starter. A backup keeper is essential so 1 out of DK/Pant will be picked with DK more likely. For the remaining 2 slots, the TM have to decide whether they want 1. A backup opener (Rahul is the only choice with zero chance for Shaw/Gill/Agarwal unless they go full retard going back to Rahane). 2. Backup all-rounder (Jadeja or Krunal). 3. 4th Seamer (Khaleel or Umesh). I think DK and Jadeja will almost certainly make the squad going by the this TM's track record. For the last spot, if Rahul's form doesn't improve, they might end up picking an extra batsman in Pant or Shankar instead of an opener. A 4th seamer won't be selected IMO as the choices are too uninspiring. bowl_out and profster 2 Link to comment

Dont count that out 1. TM looks very impressed with shankar and thats why they gave him ample chances even in a format which was not his strong one that to in top order 2. Rayudu did struggle against pace n bounce , whereas shankar looks at ease 3. Rayudu proved to be a minus on field, shankar was gr8 in fielding plus he can bowl a bit There is time left u never knw . At this point rayudu is ahead but things can change really fast Stan AF 1 Link to comment

Not after the way they have invested in him as the no. 4 and especially after he has been the top scorer in the NZ ODI series. maniac and velu 1 1 Link to comment

bowl_out
1. Rayudu is a certainty in the WC squad whether you like it or not 2. Both Pant and DK 3. Shankar ahead of Jadeja and Krunal as the third all rounder (albeit being a batsman who can give you a few overs) 4. None. Pant can be the back up opener if required. Else he can give you the middle order/keeper option 5. None. We'll go with three bowlers Likely squad : Starting XI : Rohit, Dhawan, Kohli, Rayudu, Dhoni, Jadhav, Hardik, Kuldeep, Chahal, Shami, Bumrah Reserve : Bhuvi, DK, Pant, Shankar If the selectors think this is one batsman too many, Pant/Shankar might lose out for Jadeja/Khaleel. Other than that, this looks like our final squad barring any injuries. prasen82, Jimmy Cliff and profster 1 2 Link to comment

Its clear dhoni will go anyone wants to waste time on that go ahead for others Pant Vs DK Most likely results according to management: 1. Rayudu has sealed his spot in the World Cup squad. He has done nothing wrong since his comeback into the team. Both Kohli and Dhoni highly support him as well. 2. Management will most likely select Karthik and use him at #6 as a lower order batsman who can finish off games in the last 10-15 overs. The management rate him highly. 3. None of these 2 will be in the World Cup squad. Kuldeep and Chahal will be the only two spinners going to England. We did the same 2 years ago for the Champions Trophy squad as well. 4. KL Rahul will be selected as the back up opener. He is already working hard with Dravid for India “A” and will be back in the senior team very soon. He has done nothing wrong in LOIs to be dropped. 5. Management will most likely select Umesh Yadav for his experience. All 3 of Khaleel, Thakur and Kaul have failed to show that they are better bowlers than Umesh. All 3 have failed to impress when they were given chances. Sonix768
Currently both Dk and Pant doesn't inspire any confidence. We shouldn't be carried over by the T20 performances of them, especially in this pocket size NZ roads. Both of them didn't do much in ODIs yet. DK might have slight edge due to the number of 30s (his max threshold, it seems ) and one cameo in a win against Aus. But a single freak inning by Pant (going by his track record, mostly in 5th ODI) might seal his spot. One thing seems to be certain. Both of them are too inconsistent and unreliable to be a No.4 (not that the TM would consider them to be but just in case) and other slots kind of pretty much sealed, can't see them in a starting 11 barring any injury to Dhoni/Jadhav.
