ODI bowling averages ----

Shami.     25.4

Kuldeep.  26.2

Shardul.  51 3

ODI ERs ----

Kuldeep. 5.1

Shami.    5.6

Shardul.  6.8

Can't fault anyone for playing Shami and Kuldeep ... anyone can have occasional bad matches.

Shardul's case is different. He is always expensive.

I don't deny that, Thakur is a very ordinary bowler. But for team like India he fits as he can hold his bat IMO. When looking for team balance you  just cannot go into any match with 4 number XI bowlers.

He also won two or three MOMs in recent matches too. So you cannot put  him on scanner everytime he fails that is unfair.

Saini is not No.11 batsman.

Nor is Kuldeep.

Nor is Shami.

We can also look for a good bowler who can bat a bit.

His awards were in T20Is ... not ODIs.

Different formats.

Moreover, he is under the scanner not because he has failed in a match but because he looks mediocre as a bowler on most days in all formats.

Jadeja outside UAE and India? Especially last few years.

A wrist spinner will go for runs because they are attacking bowlers and these small grounds won't help but Thakur being selected is a travesty with the only reason being given is he can bat. Kohli is a terrible captain who only selects certain personality types he likes. The sainis and other simpler folk just don't come into consideration.

He does not look mediocre, he is mediocre bowler that is why he has played just 9 odis. We should look for bowlers who can bat  but who are those bowlers.

What are the highest scores of Shami and Kuldeep in odis?

In ideal scenario you don't want Jadeja also in the team. Do we have any bowlers who can bat?

We should look for bowlers who can bowl, as @Suhaan said above.

Then make those bowlers improve their batting by practicing batting.  Kumble started this practice but it is all gone with the wind now.

We have one,

why not play him instead of this legend?

Bowler means someone who can bowl. Clearly batting was not the issue over here as there were plenty of runs on board.

Bowlerrs who can bowl i.e. specialized strike bowlers.
