Not sure how you can say that but sure Pujara has much more mature and stable head than that of the latter. Pujara may also be more hard working and worked on a different kind of skills which Rohit did not (as Beetle says too). But common, Rohit did many things that Pujara or many cricketers could not. There is no doubt about the fragility of Rohit Sharma's mindset or temperament and his inadequacy for test format demonstrated so far, but let us not go far in denying Rohit the "talented" tag which he probably deserves.

Whose loss is that? Dravid's? or the Kids in the u-19 team? And if Dravid wants to give back to Indian cricket and work with the young Indian players, he has to sacrifice his earning potential? Your logic is massively flawed. Your company gives you a paycheck, and it doesn't entitle them to demand 24/7 of your time does it? The Dravid example is a very good instance of Guha's Naivete. And your silly attempt at analogy showcases your poor understanding of the situation. I think your replies show how little you know or understand about top level sport. You attitude as with others is always money. If the job is a 12 month job and contract should state that, then you have a choise , national job or go for the money but you cant get your cake and eat it..

If the job is a 12 month job and contract should state that, then you have a choise , national job or go for the money but you cant get your cake and eat it.. I think you are mistaking your assumptions for facts. Coaching and player contracts are not structured as indentured servitude. They are business arrangements for mutual benefit. And historically, cricket coaching contracts have not had multi-year tenures, they allow for time off for coaches and players in the off-season and between tours and tournaments. And its not about "money". Its about securing the best possible people for the job. Very few top level coaches are willing to spend their time with u-19 teams. It is in Indian cricket's interest, that a resource like Rahul Dravid is made available to the young players at the u-19 level. To demand that a coach forego other earning opportunities to coach the kids is unrealistic. And so is the fantasy that you would pay them such a high amount to make it worth their while - that would also not be in BCCI's interest. Securing Dravid's services for the purposes of a few training camps, and a few u19 series and tournaments is a practical and good solution - and not a scenario that demonstrates conflict of interest. But if you want to just bash the BCCI then anything they do is automatically bad, isn't it. And any fan who doesn't agree with your viewpoint is either "money minded" or "doesn't get it". That's called frog in the well syndrome. Get well soon Tater-tot. beetle, Shunya and AK007 3

Gollum Posted June 3, 2017 Posted June 3, 2017 He is spot on. Agree 100%. Indian cricket and its superstar culture is rotten to the core. I believe Kohli-Kumble tiff is just the tip of the iceberg. AK007 and GoldenSun 1 1

Rahul Dravid, R Sridhar, Sanjay Bangar and Bharat Arun are examples of coaches who are, or have been, part of the support staff of both national teams and IPL franchises. Why should this be an issue ? There is no Ranji cricket or international cricket played during IPL. Why shouldnt the national coaches also work for teams in IPL ? The newbies in IPL teams will benefit from working with these coaches and they are getting paid by the franchises and not by BCCI. Win win for coaches, BCCI and players. beetle and AK007 2

express bowling Posted June 3, 2017 Posted June 3, 2017 (edited) IMHO Guha has raised some valid points and some impractical ones. -- Conflict of interest is often rampant in Indian cricket...but often not addressed. This is a serious issue which needs to be looked into. -- Superstar culture and superstars getting getting a bit too much leeway, is definitely an issue. Now, in a practical world, they are bound to get some preferential treatment but there needs to be a limit. People holding official posts must be allowed to do their jobs too and everything cannot be dictated by superstars. -- Annual contracts for domestic cricketers is a valid point. -- National and youth team coaches not being linked to IPL teams is an impractical point. I see no harm in it. -- Why can't a player, who plays only LOIs, get an A grade contract ? Another impractical point. -- That Guha did not have either the courage or the abilty to fight for the implementation of his suggestions, does not nullify the valid points raised by him. -- The timing of Guha's letter, just at the start of the Champion's Trophy, is really bad. Coaching u19 or India A is not a 12-month job. It is not like Indian national team coaching job. He works with them only when a tour or series is going on.

Just his job to coach whoever turns up and whenever? ( except during IPL season) Maybe if he had come with me every morning at 7 am watching State U 19 train, take part in trials, play state games then he could call himself a coach, until then i say he is an IPL mentor who has " superstar " status given an important position within Indian cricket but not doing it to his full ability because of a conflict of interests.

Selectors get input from referees and umpires who also double up as talent scouts. There is no national team coach who watches state and age group games. His job is to work with probable U19 players n the camps. If you know about recent England U19 tour to India, you would understand how he worked. There were two teams selected U19 colts and India U19. U19 colts beaten England u19 in the warmup while Indian U19 lost their first game and then he interchanged bets performing players of both squads.
