Also let's be fair to Rohit. He was the 2nd leading run scorer in the tournament, after Dhawan. 

 

He averages 52.5 runs at 88.9 strike rate since he became an opener, on par with Amla, but more destructive, thus making him arguably the best opener in the world.

 

He got out for a duck this match, but the decision could have gone either way, as the DRS showed umpire's call. Our whole team was unlucky today.

tbh thats the least of his issues . I dont think hes worse than Dhawan , but dhawan like all good players has found a way to deal with his shortcomings . Dhawans shortball play is also poor technially , but how often does he get out playing a pull ? in ODIs technique is the least of your problems . 

Rohit has the same few technical glitches in his batting he had in the U-19 wc , same issues against swing and same issues aginst spin . if hes droped down the order spinners will eat him alive . Hes simply incapable of adapting or learning from his mistakes .

The only other batting slot he can take is pandays where he does not have to think and slog blindly . Anwhere in between his average will drop to low 30s and Sr to 60s

This is the problem, You can't have SR less than 100 after scoring 100 in 2017.

We are obsessed with averages. It's the strike rates these days. A long batting line up like India should not have high individual batting averages. It's a mistake

its a bit like how Amla was SA's best batsmen , statistically not a bad tournament but of little use to the team . Rohit is poor mans Amla

Rohit can take apart anything bowled at 140+ when he is settled...I doubt his ability to survive when a quality new ball bowler is getting the ball to talk...if he would have survived today, he could have taken apart Amir etc later but I am talking about up front.
