Injury-prone pacers are advised not to do it.

It is the precise reason why India and other teams are playing 5 bowlers these days ....  so that average overs per day per bowler come down from 22.5 to 18... any extra bowling is done by the workhorse pacer and spinner.

But on first day wicket on green top if fourth seamer in this case Pandya is not upto mark , load has to be shared by top three seamers. He was taking wickets in this match that's why he was bowling. In my view taking those 6 wickets and bowling 24 overs will benefit him a lot during upcoming season.

These fast bowlers need to know how to get tail enders out and also how to pick up 5fers.

Yes, fast bowlers should not bowl more than 18 overs in a day. Anything more means that we are risking stress related injuries. We do need him playing these FC matches so that he is fit for the Tests. Overall, in the match, it seems like he bowled 35 overs, which is a decent amount of effort. Probably Bengal captain thought he needs to get more overs out of Shami because he was taking wickets. I think one-off days like that are okay as long as they don't make it a pattern of over-bowling pacers.

Shami bowling 7 overs on the trot in Ranji

Now, this should be stopped before crucial SA tour

5 or 6 over spells more than enough to get match fit

There should be an order from bcci to not bowl them like work horses. If he gets injured, the blame should go on Ganguly for forcing them to play ranji just before an important tour.

Even Umesh is playing and Ishant would have if he did not have an ankle injury

Looks like BCCI wants to give them some match practice

But there should have been clear instructions not to over-bowl them before the SA series
