Dinesh Karthik in the team over Manish Pandey

Recommended Posts

Really hope Karthik does well this series.. And the selectors decide time is up for Dhoni and get Iyer/KLR to play in the middle order.

I am not a big fan of Pant in ODIs yet.. He is raw, doesn't have a good off-side game, poor domestic performances recently... Get him into the T20I side, but for ODIs he'll have to wait till after Wc'19

ODIs

Karthick plays in WI .... scores   2, 50"  ..... dropped

Rahul plays in SL .... 4, 17, 7 ..... dropped after just 3 failures.

Pandey plays in SL and against Aus .... scores 50*, 36, 0, 3, 36* , 33, 11* .... did not get a consistent run at 4

Karthick back again

  • If Karthick was thought to be good then why was he dropped after WI after only 2 games featuring a 50  ?   If he was dropped because he did not look good then why has he been brought back  ?
  • Just before SL series , Kohli says that Rahul will be given a run at 4.  He is too good a player to sit out . So, why has he been dropped after just 3 games  ?
  • Why was Manish not sent at 4 regularly and allowed to settle in at that slot   ? Why was Kedar promoted to 4 on occasions ?
  • Why is the team not feeling the need for even a single big hitter from 4 to 6 ... while other teams are packing their teams with big hitters  ?

This is a good post

I dont disagree with DK call up- he should be in the squad- but I would definitely have preferred seeing MP given a long run, he should have been marked as the no 4 option and given say 8 ODIs at no 4 slot.

Lokesh should have been in at 3 in this series at Virat should have sat it out

The whole point of this home ODI season should have been to try out new things, but it just has not happened properly

When ur best option for No.4 is sitting at home after getting 1-2 games

and players failing to captalize chances over a decade keep getting chances yahi hota hai

Did he not fail in SL series ? He had his chances. Can't blame kohli for that. When you were given chances either you make use of it like pandya did or sit out. This is IND team with 1.2B population. No one will wait for him also he is injury prone can't trust a player like that. Bringing DK doesn't make any sense but dropping him makes sense atleast he can play ranji and prepare himself for RSA tour.

U call 2-3 chances, chances and that to they encountered dhananjaya a mystery bowler which sometimes can be tough specially when u bat not at ur regular spot

IF thats the numbers of chances that is fair there wud have been no big cricketer .

No one consider that injury prone logic

Not giving him a fair chance makes no sense, not giving him a long rope makes no sense.

Ofcourse kohli si to be blamed From yuvraj , rahul , pandey , karthik he starts with a long term plan with all and changes it rather quick. Its not about right or wrong choices he isnt even backing them properly. When he talks about ganguly n dhoni's leadership well those guys backed players for long

that was a typical Karthik innings that typifies his whole career. It always looks like this time he will make it big and then he just disappoints predictably.

For guy with so many big scores in domestic to be generally average shows some kind of a mental block. This series is the best chance he would have for a long time. We actually have a hole in the middle order and a couple of big score could give him few series

yeah 3 games are great chances and even in them he didnt get to bat at 4 in all of them.

2nd OdI - 4(6) batted at 3 when openers set up 100 partnership.

3rd Odi - 17(24) batted at 4

4th ODI - 7(8) batted at 4

Before that series against England

1st ODI 8(18)

2nd ODI  5(5)

3rd ODI   11(11)

He played 9 matches in total out of that 6 matches runs can be seen above and other 3 against mighty zim. So 2 series isn't enough ? How many series does he need ? This is Ind cricket team i guess we dont wait for anyone..If not him someone else.

Back to Sl series..5th ODI he was replaced with pandey who scored 36 of 53 right away. Hence pandey was picked ahead of him for AUS series. So pandey scored more than he did against that lankan attack. He felt we have Better options at #4 than trying an opener at that spot. Since backup rahane did well in AUS series he was preferred over Rahul at that backup spot.. so it pretty much makes sense. Question is why should he given a long run when we have players who are doing well at that spot at that moment. We want instant results times have changed i guess.. Only way Rahul can get is if both of them are injured which is highly unlikely. When Rahane was given his chance as backup opener he went on to score 50+ scores in the whole series. Rahul didn't perform at the end of the day for whatever chances he was given.

There is no greater talent than Rahul is waiting in the wings. 6 games that in a gap of 1-2 years is not called chances.  if this was the criteria, Kohli would have been dropped from the test team in 2012 itself after his poor performance in WI and then is Aus first two tests but when you see a talent who has done so well, you give him chances to settle down and not keep him in and out.  You can never make a player with this method.  They dropped Pant after one T20. I dont know how Kohli would have kept his place for so long in our T20 side with same criteria while both he was absolutely an average T20 batsmen. Only in last 2-3 years, Kohli started doing well in T20s and now he wants ready-made players.  This isn't how a team is made. If you have identified someone, give him proper chances.
