Indian selection conundrum

Opening

Dhawan/Rahul/M Vijay - only 2 can be picked out of 2.

Middle order

Rohit/Rahane - unless they go with just 4 bowlers only one can be picked as  Pandya will come back

Spin

Ash/Jadeja -  Assuming India just goes in with a lone spinner

Pace

Umesh/Ishanth  - One looks like he is in form. Other one is well..let us just say he can be quick and rattle the opposition.

It is a good headache to have on the surface. Picking the right combo is very critical

Add the question whether to pick 6 batsmen or 5, or Pandya as well.

Here's another idea - so far a lot of us have been assuming that the 6th batsman option is basically Brohit.   How about playing all 3 openers at the top of the order instead?

Vijay

Rahul

Dhawan

Pujara

Kohli

Rahane

Saha

Jadeja

Bhuvi

Ishant

Shami

12th man: Pandya

We can even keep Pujara at #3 and shove Dhawan further down the order if necessary.   Arguably all 3 of the openers have done more than Brohit to deserve a spot in the XI.

brother - on a pacy track Pandya is a BOON..he bowls nearly as much as shammi and ishant and also Bats well.

we have been grooming pandya only for africa ,england and foreign tours, hardik is going to play all tests abroad unless unfit.

we will play 3 pacers and Pandya and Ashwin or Jaddu. if its a very green track then the only Spinner could also be dropped.

my formula is Simple DO as the HOSTS DO. if the Hosts play an all Pace attack then they wud have created a fast track and if they play one spinner , then we must also play one SPinner.

i think it will be either rohit or kl rahul , one of these two who would play in the eleven. Rahane's form is dicy but he may get a ticket to the african plane based on his Past performance.

9. Shami

11. Bumrah / Ishant

My lineup as well. Ideally would have liked to try Shankar in the SL tests to have him as a no.6 option along with Pandya.

No ashwin / jadeja . O please give me a break

In South Africa |Kuldeeps wrist spin could be a greater threat than either of the finger spinners

Or he could be debuting and get demolished or be not good enough.

this is not time for crazy experiments . We got 2 proven test spinners . They play( one of them ) . Simple

everyone very happy to gamble when it’s not their money .

i can't believe Ishant is in anyone's XI

He's an underrated 3rd seamer.   And Umesh Yadav's inconsistent performances in the last 2 tests, coupled with Ishant's disciplined showing at Nagpur have reminded people of Ishant's utility.
