Gotta be Smith or Pujara (duh) but Rahul's performance against Australia was the most impressive in a series context. Honorable mention to Shai Hope for his twin hundreds in England and 90 odd against PAK in a winning cause.

Look at the way England struggling in Aussie land. That was one heck of a series by Kohli against a better attack of Starc, Johnson,Harris and Llyon. But we Indians dont like to give credit.

Smith also scored 4 centuries (or 5?) in that same tour, and the pitches were very flat. In contrast, Smith scored more runs in a single innings than Kohli did in "home" conditions. I think Smith must have scored about 10 times as many runs as the "great" Kohli even though latter had home advantage. Besides, Lyon + O'Keefe is lesser than Ashwin + Jaddu.

 

I don't know if Smith's series is among "greatest of all time", but it certainly ranks among greatest of 21st century along with Lara against Murali and Vaas.

Dude seriously? Smith got 800 runs in that series, VK close to 700, Warner had 3 100s , Vijay, Rahane all feasted. 500s were being scored for fun, not once were we close to getting 20 wickets. Only Brisbane was a somewhat challenging pitch and Kohli failed in both innings (no surprise there), Vijay's 140 there was all class btw.

This year, I have been most impressed by KL Rahul among Indian batters because he has scored runs most consistently in difficult conditions

Pujara has been the most consistent among Smith, Kohli and Pujara with nine 50 plus scores in 18 innings, Kohli 6 in 16 innings, Smith 7 in 18 innings.

Rank turners neutralized Ashwin and Jadeja. Lyon is as good as Ashwin and Jadeja in any condition, tbh.
