Kohli has raised his profile as batsman in this series

I have seen some duffers were criticizing kohlis batting in Australia series last year when he was struggling, overrating htb like pujara to moon, quality attack, hostile conditions and this man took his game to next level here, prior to this series he was averaging 70 in south Africa so he knows how to deal with tough conditions, Kudos to kohli for living up to expectations.

He has been excellent this series but not yet in the SRT-Lara class. And no need to criticize Rahane/Pujara/Vijay....those 3 have stepped up many times to save our asses when Kohli went MIA. Let us use this thread to appreciate Kohli rather than downplaying others.

If Kohli has entered SRT class in this series what would you call Rahul's 7 50s in the 2017 Aus home series? Everyone has their time, SRT is SRT because he did such things year after year for at at least 15 out of 24 years in international cricket, often against much more deadly bowling attacks.

Lara played 9 tests in SA and scored 2 centuries at an avg of 46

Kohli played 5 tests there and already have 2 centuries with an avg of 56

Kohli should sometime score runs in mars with 1 leg tied and blindfolds on. Only then he can be considered as a class batsman perhaps.

Which series has been better for SRT than this one?

This is as good as any of SRT's top performance on tough tracks overseas.

Revisionism at its best.

If not for Pujara, Kohli would have lost 2015 SL series, 2015 SA series and 2017 Aus series and had the infamous record of being the only Indian captain to lose 2 home series since the 90s.

I have always said hes got a near perfect technique , he should have no issues adapting to any conditions and was always as good as Dravid/Tendulkar technically . The people who criticise current batsmen when they struggle against spin/swing/bounce dont realise that its a lot more difficult for these days to adapt than 10-20 years back . The amount of T20s/ODIs played these days makes a big difference , a lot of bad habbits creeps into their batting technique which is not easy to undo that quickly , before they do the series is done . Another factor are flat pitches , when you play 95% of your matches on such pitches its extremely difficult to deal with extreme swing/spin/bounce in some random match . you simply need to be a little more patient with these guys .

if Virat can play swing/bounce/spin with ease these days , I would put him above the likes of Dravid/Tendulkar/Lara ..just for the simple reason that every one around him ( some very good players ) has not struggled to do that .

Well said. Now that he's done well in this series, I have changed my mind about Kohli's performance against Australia last year. He was excellent. In fact, I think he was quite brilliant in England 2014 as well. Similarly since Pujara and Rahul have failed in this series, I am going to revise my opinion about their performance against Australia last year. They were quite horrific on flat tracks. Kohli should have dropped them for Dhawan and Rohit and we'd have won 4-0.
