For those who are saying that Pant is selected for wrong format, he has been good keeper in FC cricket and averages 54

Even though pant may be overrated a bit on this forum, you can't deny the talent he has. We will have to endure some growing pains with pant and hope the selectors give him a proper run to prove himself. It's been a while since we had such a great talent. He does need to improve his list A numbers but as you can see his recent innings and through IPL, the guy has matured a lot. He's already a damn good wicket keeper. Saha obviously is the best. Then pant and then daylight....prove the haters wrong pant B->

I feel Srikar Bharat is a better wicketkeeper than Pant, but combined with his batting, Pant is the better one.
I think Pant should be drafted in as a pure bat before getting handed the glove.

Everybody with a tinge of quality in them gets overrated and overhyped on social media.
He isn't still Anurag Cashyup or Raju Hirani in terms of Being overrated.

Forget DK, Pant would have retired by then.
Has Parthiv or DK retired yet?
But yeah, people with potential tend to lose steam if they are not brought to the Internationals soon because the quality level in domestics and internationals differ a lot in cricket unlike football.

I would love this guy to succeed, after all you never see people from my state Uttarakhand in Indian test squad but i still feel he is not ready and being rushed into this squad irrespective of format. He is just 20 , let him get a couple of more domestic seasons and A tours under his belt. He will be ready in couple of years and he will only be 22 then, leave this young man alone, let him fine tune his skill and let him raise his fitness level. Irrational selection (T20 for SL tri series then straight into test squad in England - ) and fan pressure is going to break another potential player.

He has shown tremendous improvement but Yes, I do think he needs one more A tour.
Fast tracking rarely works even if the player is amazingly talented, as seen in most cases.
He is improving but mentality too plays a huge part in making or breaking a player-especially in the big squad.

A tours rarerly have pressure, and I have my doubts on the genuinity of IPL.
And Kohli, as we know, tend to put extra pressure on players and isolate anybody who is not in his inner group.

It is good to see fans supporting a rising talent though-but let's not pretend that Pant is the solution to the royal problem who calls himself MS dhoni.
Calling Pant as msd's fix will probably put more pressure on Pant to perform and he will ultimately flop.

I agree with you on point-random selections after 1 or 2 good performances and then getting dropped after 1 or 2 failures is not the way you treat a talented emerging player.
I love that Selectors have hope in him-but is too much hope and love towards him actually a bane for him?
Or is he being pushed to fulfill unknown political agendas of his "backers"?
Or because the media has man marked him so they are selecting him randomly to make some money(we know BCCI plays to the camera)?
Hardik Pandya is being pushed so much, yet he is still a miss or hit type of player - and definitely not all format.

Kohli was 20 when he played for India, Yuvraj was 19. And Pant is absolutely ready.  Being ready has nothing to do with age. You pick players when they are doing well.  He might not be doing well in two years, might be out of form and then selectors will not pick him because he is out of form. Top run getter in IPL, runs on A tour in both formats. How much ready can someone be?  There is nothing fan pressure.  He performed he got picked. Neither it is irrational as T20 and tests are two completely different formats.

I know your Dhoni bias is coming in the way of your judgement.

I am not going to deny I am biased towards Dhoni, its going to be tough to achieve what he has as captain and player HOWEVER i am not blind to his time being up. Dhoni will be a liability going into next years WC is evident and needs to be replaced.

While i accept my bias you on the other hand are not able to see past your bias towards Pant. DK has to be our first choice keeper till next year WC, Saha anyways will be back for test once he recovers. I still have the same argument Pant in the 2-3 games he has played for india doesnt look international ready and neither did Virat at 20 thats why he didnt play his next ODI after a year.

Pant has played 4 T20s and has not at all looked out of place., yes he did not score as quick as he does but it is not because he is not ready.  it happens. he has faced better attacks and scored runs against them on A tours than what he faced in those T20s.  Regarding Kohli, he was not dropped.  He made his debut because top players were given rest likes of SRT and Viru.  once they came back, he had to make way. And remember, Dhoni had no real performance when he was picked for India apart from that India A tour to Kenya where he did well.  His first class numbers were ordinary, averaging 32 but pipped Karthik and played test matches.

Regarding Karthik, he is already 33 and his keeping is lottery and in last 14 years, he has always been a 20-30 run man.  i would rather give these games to a young guys especially ODIs instead of wasting them on a TTF.

Regarding i have no bias for any player.  Anyone who does well should play.

No one on the forum is calling him msd fix....msd has a larger than life persona built over years by professional PR agency. He is also amazing lucky for himself. He has also achieved a lot over a long period of time.

But he has to go and some one has to be wktkeeper in his place in the team..not in the cricketing world. He is the best choice to be next wktkeeper....not next dhoni.

He may never be as good as dhoni was at his best....or he may turn out  better. We can inly compare when Pant has spent a decade in Team India.

We want Pant to be Pant....the next keeper of team India based on his performance and we hope he proves us right....or else he goes and someone else takes his place .

We are not looking for him to be next msd or even get into his shoes. We want him because he has done well and he looks like a very good future prospect.

This is a cricket forum where we are better than the fan club memes.

I beg to differ. Anyhow you feel Pant is the guy i feel kartik is the guy we are all entitled to our opinions.

Showed enough vs England A team
Should play him before DK

I have feeling Pant will play, I don’t think management have confidence in DK with red ball or else they would have played him in SA tests

He will probably sneak in the last 2 tests if DK flops but DK is going to be the first choice-more so after the Nidahas heroics.
Poor guy is not getting enough chances.

DK is going to be around for a while.....The management is more willing to slot Pant as a specialist batsman in the seniors I feel at this moment.

We have to keep in mind the management under Kohli is not really conducive to optimal performance for those who are not in his close group...
I am sure given the backing Pant has among the selectors, he will definitely play in the Asia Cup and that will be his acid test.
He has tremendously improved since Nidahas, and I expect him to do well against Asian minnows-especially if Rohit Is the captain.
This guy knows how to select teams and backing players properly.
