Alright if he has good technique and temparament we can try him as an opener too in tests. Our openers dont do much in overseas anyway.

T20 's vs tests. Different format different pitch different boundary dimensions batspeed bowling restrictions.. Line length totally different games.

JAYANT YADAV....that guy did very well with the bat against England in India. Not to be seen since then. So pathetic that he was discarded...his batting alone would have saved us..hell even Bhuvi would have been very good. Now that I think of it, Rahane scorws century in England cuz bhuvi was batting nicely at the other end....like I said...without someone one to support him he won't do jack.

We need an all rounder at 6th position, None of our batsman bowls and when u hve bwoelr who clock 140K + its important to give them few overs breather . Last game when ashwin was injured had pandya not been their we cud have been in trouble n lets not forget when zak broke in 2011, u cnt jst go with only 4 bowlers 

We have pant who is a good enough batsman, Ashwin n bhuvi in lower order are very capable as well

 

6th batsman is a defensive strategy , the problem is 4 out of 5 batsman is jst not consistent and 6th wont make a lot of diff .

Infact few of us has been suggesting here keep him n pandya both in overseas n play acc to pitch .....this will also help pandya workload

Pandya bowling is better and vijays batting 

He can bat at 6, infact ill say 5 .........

Vijay Shankar ( if he can perform) is just the prototype all rounder Ind needs, a capable batsman who can bowl a bit.You know for certain he is a batsman who can bowl to provide rest for bowlers.

With Pandya,the captain doesn't trust his bowling enough and as a result doesn't bowl him enough and in so far as his batting is concerned,I maintain a player with such feeble numbers in domestic can't be allowed to learn art of batsmanship in test cricket.He is no prodigy either.

Our problem has been batting. Getting wkts is not the problem. If batting is a problem it gets fixed by a batsman. Not a tough logic to understand.

If your batsmen are devoid of skill, replace them rather than forcing these bowlers to stress their body.

The bowlers won't be effective and we will keep having scenarios where the lower order of the opposition takes the game away.

the non performance of batsman  have had a cascading effect on bowlers and i agree with folks here who have stated that we need 5 bowlers.

 

pandya cannot be purely taken in a bowler. we would be better off taking a siraj in here. have a much better chance. pandya inspires no confidence with bat and at least with proper 5 bowlers we can go all out and give the desired rest for our pacers. Kohli has tried to feed more work to his workhorses while carrying more deadwood ( read openers ).

 

dhawan should have been dropped and we should have opened with pujara. Rahul though he scored a bit today leaves a lot to be desired with his footwork and head position.

 

we will lose this test which is good, so that we can clear up some bagage.

 

for austalia considering pitches are going to be bouncy and batsman will last longer bowlers need to be kept fit which means we need 5 proper bowlers.

this is a very inexperienced team but will ensure that pujara and rahane take up more responsibility . 

 

the main problem we have is we have 5 specialist batsmen who cannot roll their arms. so that can be only 4. So it would be a musical chair between Openers and Rahane. Else we need to move pujara to Open and get one batting and bowling all rounder in 6 and 7 .

 

Batting AR - Vihari( semi), Vijay Shankar

Bowling AR - Ashwin, Jadeja,Bhuvi, Hardik

 

depending on type of pitch we need to decide whether we go for 6 + 5 combo or 5 +2 + 4 or 7 + 4

 

and no ashwin does not walk into test side overseas automatically. he will compete with the others and come in depending on type of pitch.

 

The more you think about this rahane role is redundant. if vihari can bat at 80% rahane level and bowl 5-10 overs per test innings he would be far more valuable.
