This team needs proper no 6 batsman

Openers have been losing their places, Vijay, Dhawan, Rahul all have faced the axe. 

 

Pujara lost his spot. Rahane lost with concerns around their position and batting.

 

Team will try to find players for all those positions.

 

But they need 1 proper batsman for no 6 position too. Someone who can actually take advantage of favorable conditions.

I think its time to invest in part time spinner, who can bat at #6. Play with 4 proper fast bowlers. Is there anyone in Domestic circuits?

Vijay Shankar looks a proper batsman. Can bowl a bit.

I think the batting problems begin and end with the openers. We need two openers in the mold of Vijay(from our last round of overseas tours). 

 

The 3-5 are always exposed to the new ball because our openers are never able to even form 50 run partnerships overseas. Even if they don't score, openers should at least blunt/soften the new ball and tire our the opening bowlers in their first spells. 

 

Right now the older Vijay and mediocre at best Rahul/Dhawan are truly millstones around the neck of the team's batting.  

 

We need to get over the Sehwag obsession: he is a once in a lifetime type batsman; neither Dhawan nor Rahul are going to replicate him. Proper openers for us need to grind people to dust like Sunny.

Whether we need an extra batsmen or an extra bowler will always be debated. The composition depends up on your strengths and options available 

 

• Extra Batsman: Play extra batsman when your batting is the key strength. And you have batsmen capable of averaging 40+ in the reserves. If you have batsmen struggling, the struggling extra batsman does not necessarily strengthen the side 
• Extra Bowler: Play extra bowler to further boost your bowling strength and when you have bowlers who can bowl at a SR of 55

India neither has strong batting nor bowling. It has a few good batsmen and a few good bowlers. Therefore it would need to first optimize the 5 batting slots and 4 bowling slots

On a serious note, the game has become so hectic and professional that batsmen do not have the time to work on their traditional test batting skills.

He was legendary in England. In similar conditions, top order sucked even more and he continued to be good lower down the order. A better keeper/bat like him would have turned these losses into wins. Our bowling is so good nowadays, it sucks to lose games due to batting.
