Vihari bats 3 in FC cricket.  I repeat bats 3 in FC for Andhra for quite a few seasons.  Batted 3 for India A in all those games for India A away were he did well

 

So he bats 3.  So batting a number 3 bat at 6 is what is unfair and out of order as that waaaay out of his best slot as likes new ball and pace and time to bat.  So to go from 3 to open yes only now slighly out of position by 1 slot but nout 5 slots out of position.  So will suit him more

Batting at 3 in Ranji is completely different than opening in SENA countries. Opening is a specialist job and only those who have played first class games both at home and overseas as a specialist opener should be opening in tests. Jerking someone around the order at a time when he is beginning to find his ground will only unsettle him.

Yep to a certain extent it is.  Hence you take these players on A tours to these countries and see how they do.  If they do well then you can play them for india

Then why not select him as a backup opener and play him when a spot is available ? First you select him at 6, now as an opener and then after 1 or 2 failures, you dump him. This is just poor management.

2 things here. 

 

Even if he's batted at 3 in domestics, it's an not even close to opening in Aus. 

 

Secondly, Vihari was settling into a role and now asking him to play arguably the most difficult role in Test cricket is unfair. On the contrary its the seniors who should step up. So even by your own argument of playing at no3 being similar to opening, it should have been Pujara who should have opened not Vihari.
