If Pant and Saini can be drafted in (WC19)

While Ind did well in its warmup vs. BD, I will not get carried away by that performance. Have followed Ind cricket a lot to see the team thrash Asian teams and get thrashed by other teams in WCs outside subcon, be it 1992 or 2007 (where even Asian teams thrashed India, who played like champs vs. Bermuda) 

 

The chinks in Ind's armor include:

• Rohit (Poor record in ICC events vs. top teams. Past his best)
• Shankar (pressure)
• Jadhav (fitness)
• Dhoni (Did well vs. buffet bowling of BD but it could be the best inning he played in this WC) 
• DK (does not convert starts) 
• Jadeja and Bhuvi to some degree

 

With the win vs. the casual BD, the TM may feel that it can sweep things under the carpet but proactively, it needs to bring in Pant and Saini in before it is too late ideally in place of Shankar and an unfit (not 100%) Jadhav. As has been mentioned in one of the threads, India plays most of its important group games early in the tournament

They already have made three huge mistakes

1)Not having Pant

2)In a long tournament like this that too in one of SENA they haven't gone with four pacers instead took the punt of flying in three tweakers there

3)Jadhav should not have been there ,he will breakdown even if he is supremely fit

What has he done to somehow merit a WC slot?  Or is it the age old Kuch Nayaa laao syndrome?  

 

Promising sure.  But there is nothing to indicate that Saini won't turn into a Mohammed Siraj in white-ball cricket.  Especially early on.  Both of these guys are stud prospects who need to be mentored and brought along on their development curve. 

 

Its a crying shame that even the most experienced of the Indian pace bowlers -guys who have access to the best coaching, training etc that the BCCI can buy - still show a massive jump and improvement in their bowling, after even short stints in county cricket.  That tells me that the pace bowlers in India, are not getting the proper guidance, mentoring, coaching and training that they need.  Bumrah is a freak, an outlier.  He has emerged in spite of the system, not because of it.  Very Kapil-esque in that regard.  

 

In fact, if our bowling coach could get a few minutes to use his brains after pulling his head out of Smastri's ass, he should have been working with the BCCI to send the top 5 young pace bowlers - Saini, Siraj, Thampi, Avesh, Nathu etc - all of these guys - for county cricket.   At subsidized contract rates if it comes to that.

Bumrah grew up in a good system. Also Malinga was around in step of his way. Also he practices way more than other guys.

Also, he's one of those rare guys who has developed a high level of bowling IQ, instinctively knows when to deliver which type of delivery, with a high degree of execution success.  

 

Not to take any credit away from Bumrah or his work ethic, but I don't think its just his "practice" that allowed him to rise to the top echeleon of bowlers.  And stay there.   We often deride Pakistani batsmen for their lack of polish, and batting intelligence - such things only become part of a batsman's instinct, if they are practiced from an early stage in their careers.  Guys like Kohli, Dhawan, Rohit, Rahane etc benefit from being members of a domestic system that sets a high standard for batsmen, and shows them the path.  The pace bowling counterpart of this is badly missing in India.

Honestly, I'd trust Ishant more than Saini, to step in as a injury replacement for the WC.   I hope Saini goes on to be a great bowler for India.  But Ishant is pretty much bowling his best right now.  Confidence and experience play a massive part in a bowler's ability to execute in pressure situations.  Along with skills.  Overall, I'd give Ishant the edge over Saini.  

 

But yeah yeah, I know, the conventional wisdom on Ishant is that he's crap in ODIs.  Besides, his name and face is old news, staler than the newspaper used to wrap peanuts.  So most would prefer "exciting" "new" names instead.

Reserves appear in-form/fitter than some of the guys in the squad. Pant is essential in such conditions and the squad needs another quick 

 

TM has seen the guys so can still act “proactively” before it is too late

Exactly, and how much of a diff can 2 newbies make if u have issue with more then half a squad. Among which one is a youngster whose game involves high risk so high chances he wud be inconsistent and before that he ll be warming the bench

Can be a good option but Saini can bowl quick at 145+, which is required on flat surfaces

Recall Yuvi and Zak's debut in CT2000  .... Both of them provided not only freshness but also an edge to that side which went on to play the final! .... Pant can combine well with Pandya to add firepower to the line up, while Saini can add pace to the line-up

Thats what i have been saying all along,Thomas blasted them.with bouncers,we needed Saini to blow away such opponents in helping conditions and seeing the one dimensional batting order we really needed Pant
