Cricketics Posted June 30, 2019 Posted June 30, 2019 Again he just got one wicket but bowled his heart out. Average for the game shows 44 run per wicket as been the case through out the world cup but he has been our best bowler overall who has been unlucky to get wickets. Thats been the case through out the world cup, where he has bowled his heart out on flat tracks. People currently respect Bumrah already for what he has done in the past but in general, when a new bowler comes in and fails to show much wickets, he gets wild comments from fans. But fans need to realize bowling average in particular in LOI cricket is over rated. Economy Rate etc are more vital now days. Bumrah helps take other bowlers get wickets many times. This is nothing to take away anything from Shami who took fifer but in a whole general scenario, sometimes your best bowlers will often be watched so much by the opposition that your best bower might not get the wicket. Harsh truth about the game. MechEng, Unstable Joe, sandeep and 4 others 2 5
Prakat Posted June 30, 2019 Posted June 30, 2019 Absolutely. Bumrah is now, with his ever growing reputation a psyops weapon. Taking nothing away from shami, but without bumrah on the other end, they wouldn't be chancing their luck against Shami. You can easily give some of the credit of those last two wickets that Shami took to the fact that Bumrah had half of the last 10 overs in play.

Cricketics Posted June 30, 2019 Author Posted June 30, 2019 Just now, ungboysj said: No he needs to make more impact pick up early wickets Look at starch winning so many matches It has happened that Bumrah hasn’t gotten wickets while Starc has. Starc has been top class, but Bumrah not getting wickets doesn’t mean he has bowled any less than Starc. People have developed reputation of not hitting Bumrah at all and hence play more defensively and ore meditated defensive strokes. With Starc, they get odd bad balls and hence players are ready to play some shots and when players play more shots, bowler has higher probability in getting more wickets. This is the case in LOI cricket. Prakat 1

Just economical won't suffice they need to pick wickets too. Our bowling attack became potent after we dropped economical bowlers like Ashwin and Jadeja and picked wicket takers like Chahal and Kuldeep. Taking wickets is always the best way to control RR. bhakum20 Posted June 30, 2019 Posted June 30, 2019 Bumrah is a beast there’s no doubt, but alas he is not god. I haven’t seen him get much reverse which is why his yorkers just go straight on and the batsmen can defend, unlike someone like Starc. His action and angle don’t help him get much reverse, he just angles it in. Another thing as @Cricketics said is batsmen are very watchful of him and usually on the defensive, so they just block his yorkers most of the times Cricketics 1

They need to pick wickets but economy rate is vital as in if a bowler is not taking wickets, he should be first judged seeing the economy rate column. If that is not good also then we should ask for their axe. If economy rate is good, that means they have done something right. Now bowler bowls to just be economical. Every bowler wants to take wickets. It just doesn’t happen every time as batsmen controls the game with his defensive games. As in this case, bats are pre determined to be watchful against Bumrah and attack others.

They were safe as long as they were respecting him. This predeliction will only further cement his reputation as a bowler to be watchful of. Protect your wicket and go after the others. Thisnis why he will be hard for batsmen in test matches as you can’t do all this bs stuff in test matches as Bumrah can bowl as many overs as he wants in test matches and bowlers can not defend him all day. No wonder he will dominate more in test cricket always, at least in wickets column. Prakat 1

express bowling Posted June 30, 2019 Posted June 30, 2019 In his career, Bumrah has an excellent bowling average of 22 and a high wickets per match ratio. His low ER of 4.5 is an additional quality which makes him a complete ODI bowler. Just a low ER is not enough to make a bowler very good or great. In modern ODIs, it is not possible to keep teams within a moderate total by just accurate and defensive bowling. It is wickets which halt their progress. Today, England were 47 for 0 in the first 10 overs. Despite that, they scored around 210 runs in 30 overs because they had wickets in hand. And slowed down again when they lost wickets. Bumrah was exceptional in the last 10 overs. But he needs to bowl more wicket taking line and length deliverers in the first 10 overs. He normally does that but has not done it in this WC 2019. Really good defensive bowlers do pick wickets by squeezing the batsmen. This is what Bumrah does. He isn't an attacking bowler. Edited June 30, 2019 by rkt.india Switchblade 1

These are valid points but Bumrah isn’t a very defensive bowler. He is right up there with Starc who tries to bowl yorkers with the new ball. And he also bowls short, so he is doing things right, but just that its a harsh truth that opposition will defend you at times even if you keep attacking at them.

Bumrah has been a sufficiently attacking bowler in the last 2 years. Bowls a lot of fuller side of good length channel balls punctuated by good bouncers, in test matches and first spells of ODIs. But in this WC ... in the first spells, he has generally bowled too many back of a length deliveries and too few fuller channel balls and surprise bouncers. It is this area which needs improvement in this WC 2019 ... although he has been exceptional as a death over bowler. Vijy and Mosher 2
