His game atleast in tests is good and let him continue growing there without any presssure. For ODIs he should be our no 5 or 6 batsmen instead of Jadhav and for T20's try him at 4. KL Rahul's confidence was broken when even after successful home season against Eng and Aus, Dhawan and Vijay were preferred over him in Africa and he was always someone who was on chopping block. The guy has done really well in Eng & Aus by scoring centuries in his maiden tours and we have Syed Kirmani calling Pant as "yeh abhi jhule main hai" (he is still in his infancy) advocating for the inclusion of Wriddhiman Saha.

But,I don't take Ganguly seriously after he said we should play pujara at no. 4 in worldcup.

I have always believed in this ... his match temperament is more suited to tests..where he can take his own time and then cut loose. In ODIs, the batsman has to score straight away taking 1s & 2s finding gaps, which is not the strong point of Pant. So he is best suited to opening in ODIs where the field restrictions can allow to counter this short coming of his. Riju23 1

maniac Posted August 28, 2019 Posted August 28, 2019 (edited) Pant looks like a proper batsman and much more assured in tests. in ODI's and T20's he comes across like a hack. Sehwag had the same problem as well. Just because he used to score at run a ball in tests, he thought it was mandatory for him to score at 200+ S/R in LOI's. However Sehwag had tremendous balance and was a lot more orthodox in technique relatively speaking in comparison with Pant and even when he made frustrating 20's and 30's in LOI's, it was beautiful to watch. Pant on the other hand has a very unorthodox technique, so it can get painful to watch him at times trying to hoick everything in LOI's. So far the most aesthetically pleasing innings and assured knock by Pant in LOI was the WC semifinal when he knew he had time to play himself in. Obviously threw that away as well. Most of the criticism at a Pant is being driven by the Dhoni mafia in news and social media. Many of the old timers ( not all ) don't like seeing a confident young man or a confident new-comer. They like them to be meek and submissive in front of seniors. Only the 1 or 2 established superstars or super seniors were " allowed " to be confident and even bossy. And it was this culture of meekness in our cricket team which had held us back as a dominant cricket nation till about 1999 or thereabouts. But many of these old timers will never change. Why don't they back them like they used to do before The only reason for different standards for Pant is because of pro Dhoni supporters who want to see him fail at all costs so that Dhoni can prolong his career. And these supporters are present also in BCCI and selectors nevada, adi B, Ironhide and 2 others 5
