This is going to be a boring series.. SA have regressed drastically. They are playing Bavuma and that opener..only Decock can play to some extent. Miller like AB should have been dropped/retired. Cant see them winning anything on this tour.

We have also progressed a lot..

honest question-how long is the rope for Pant.we can plainly see he is not improving even after the coach and captain wants him to be more selective.at the end of the day runs or the lack of it will make your career and Pants lack of control in his shots is his Achilles heel.

If u ask me ill give him 50-60 odi, such players are not consistent . U remeber sehwag, jayasuria, gilchrist being consistent in ODI ??? no they werent

Players like pant, yuvraj , rohit take tie coz they have to mnay option n its takes time to get their shot selection right as compare to other who have limited option. Didnt yuvi n rohit take time.

He has even played 20 odi ...so have patience......take most career around the world generally they get going around 60+ odis

The difference is that none of them go out in such a predictable fashion... I'm all for Pant doing well and getting an extended run, but he should really earn his place..  I don't see why Kishan or Samson shouldn't be tried out for a few series as well, probably as back-up keepers or even purely as batsmen.

No they all did....its just that its old n no one remembers  n they are successful so everyone has forgotten their struggle.

Coz if u cant show patience with pant then u wudnt with kishen or samson. Pant has proved to be better then them in ipl n domestic so even they wud struggle. 1st atleast give pant a fair go for 30-40 games the next one.

Every players looks good when he is not playing. If kishen n samson fails for few games same ppl will say erre pant was better he shud have gotten more chances

Where was this Kohli when we needed in world cup semifinal. I am so pissed off at this guy, this guy has to produce in big stage bloody hell what is point in scoring all these runs if you cannot produce in crunch matches.

Bilateral n KO diff ball game

KO is about a day when a the tournament can end on that very day - that thought itself can create the pressure which can lead to hesitation or overtrying resulting in error. As they say its all about keeping it simple n the one who keeps his nerves is able to do it.

What is a crunch match? What would we be saying if India lost this game? It would be a tough way to live if we said that the only crunch games are semi final or final games of world cups. That would mean that many years worth of games are not worth following and we should just wake up when those games come about. We should recognize a player who has been consistently good over a period of time.

SA playing a B team yet our top 3 still not willing to make way for youngsters. All in the name of T20 WC preps where they will once again hog all the batting in group stages and choke in the knockouts exposing an undercooked middle order. Absolutely no lessons learnt from the WC debacle. Why can't these T20s be used to send Iyer at 3, Pandya at 4 to see how they respond to such situations? These T20 wins or losses and all the stats for the established stars count for nothing.

Also, how can Dhawan with an avg of 28 and SR under 130 be the preferred opener vs KL Rahul with a 42 average and 148 SR?

Good point. Just like we support a second tier bowling squad, with a top tier batting line up, we should also try combinations where our top tier bowlers( Bumrah, Shami, Kuldeep, Chahal) support a batting line up of Ishan Kishan, Sanju Samson, Shubman Gill etc.

I am the last person to devalue any match.Kohli is the greatest chaser in limited over matches. But that does not mean he is immune to criticism for failing in crunch matches.

2015 semis and 2017 CT finals those matches were lost before they even faced a single ball chasing 330 plus in a regular match is hard but is almost impossible in a knock out match. But this year semis all Kohli had to do was weather the new ball and he would have taken India over the line.

ATG player has to raise his game in big mathces that's what seperates good player to ATG player.Kohli might end up with greatest stats in LOIs but still not be reconginized as the greatest batsman in shorter versions.

He has been automatic after world cup scoring runs like walk in the park in one dayers. You as a player cannot be called greatest and come up short in big games,

Teams don't remain competitive forever, India has the best record in ICC tournaments since 2015 but has nothing to show for that record. Look at SA now.SA has second best W/L ratio in odis since their readmission in 1992 and how many trophies have they won despite having some of the greatest teams.

It's time to accept that Kohli is a big man in small games but a small man in big games.

He did come up big in two t20 world cup.His performances in those two t20 world cups was maginificient in knock out matches. But he has not been able to match those in 50 overs world cup.

Yet to see him repeat that at the international level

Guy scored a match-winning 65 from just 42 balls in 3rd T20 against WI just recently...looked good for large parts during WC against top quality bowlers, so can we give him a break? Isn't it better to invest in slightly more high-risk playetr who has game take on top opposition rather than safer bet like Rayudu who will deliver against mediocre opposition but go missing against big boys?

He should bat at 6 or 7. Not before that. Experiment of promoting Pandya, Pant to no.4 will eventually fail.

Again telling .... either open with Pant or never play him  limited overs. His temperament is much more suited to tests.

I've been saying this for sometime. Give him(Pant) the role as what Australians gave to Gilchrist during their golden run from 1999-2008. It is time for one or two of Rohit/Dhawan & Kohli to step down from their batting positions and be assigned new roles. Sure if India had won the WC they can stick to it but the top order kept failing at crunch ICC events and it is time to try new ideas.
