World XI which can beat current Indian team at home

Recommended Posts

This team has lost only 1 test after 2012 Eng series and since then closest win has been 75 runs victory over Aus at Bengaluru in 2016.

31 matches

25 won

5 drawn

1 lost

9 innings victory

6 200+ runs victory

If you have to form a world XI, which can beat this team at home then what would that be?

That bowling attack would still be roasted in India.

I think world 11 would not be able to beat India B team forget about the main side (Indian Conditions).

S Dube

S Gopal

K Yadav

M Siraj

The players from the around the world are very mediocre. Batsman are pretty average (apart from S Smith), they are neither good to watch or productive.

There are some good seamers and Maybe Ben Stokes as an allrounder but other than there is not much,

If I have to pick a team to beat India in India here is my strategy,

Conventional openers especially from Subcontinent. We over do the foreign player big names but miss out on sc players from smaller teams

1.Tamim Iqbal

2.T.Latham based on current form in SC

No.3 and No.4 pick themselves in any world Test X1 these days  Kane Williamson and Steve Smith

No.5 Toss up between Ross Taylor  who does well in India and  back up Kusal Perera or Angelo Matthews

No.6 Ben Stokes or Shakib based on the pitch

No.7 De Kock or J.Bairstow

No8 Pat Cummins- a work horse like bowler who can keep coming at the batsman with awkward lengths

No.9 M.Ali over Lyon because Indians struggle against darters rather than conventional spinners

No 10. I would need a conventional swing and seam bowler like Anderson to take early wickets to have a crack at the Indian middle order.  Philander Is too slow. Anderson In his prime would be an ideal choice to partner Cummins but will go with Hazelwood who is a seam bowler and has the extra pace.

No.11 Toss up between Archer who has the xfactor or that Srilankan mystery spinner who had Pakistan’s number recently.

Not going to pick Rashid Khan. Don’t think he will do well against us in tests.

Here is my 16 and I would play horses for courses based on the pitch

Tamim

Latham

Smith

Williamson (c)

Taylor

Shakib

De kock

Moeen Ali

Cummins

Archer

Hazelwood

Reserves: Stokes, Wanindu Hasaranga,Angelo Matthews,Kusal Perera, Bairsotow

Moeen ali struggled in india and lyon did way better

Lyon avg 30

Ali - 64

A lot of time overseas spinner who trouble us in their backyard struggle in india due to sg ball. Even rashid khan mentioned after hsi debut test in india that he was struggling to grip sg ball for 2 sessions.

Ill pick mushfiqur rahim as keeper over de kock n others. He scored a 100 in the only test he played here. He plays spin well

Yeah that’s a good pick. Only problem is he is a poor keeper.

No world XI currently can beat India in India simply because there is no pace or spin bowler outside of India which can run through an Indian lineup in India. Had there been a Murali, McGrath, Steyn or Akram in today’s cricket, who could bowl really well against India in India, then they might have a chance.

Dont recall Wasim Akram running through the Indian side in India. Or for that matter, even Steyn.

Steyn and Akram could and have run through us in subcontinental conditions. Nobody today has that ability, in any format. And that’s where the problem is.

  1. Elgar
  2. Bairstrow (make shift opener)
  3. Root
  4. Smith
  5. dareen bravo / chandimal
  6. Shakib
  7. mushfiqur
  8. Cummins
  9. Archer
  10. Lyon
  11. mohmmad abbas

  • Bairstrow has a good record in Ind-SL , make shift opener might just work for him as has for rohit.
  • Bravo n chandimal both have done well in India and against our spinners but struggle to keep their place in their side. Whoever is in form will be the choice
  • Archer with his pace shud enjoy indian wkts but its just an estimation
  • Gone with mohmmad abbas since he does well on uae wkts .....but with SG ball it can be diff. Still he hasnt played here so trying him. mayank n rohit does leave a bat pad gap which abbas kind of bowling can exploit but if he fails he ll be go for plenty . Neways choices arent much
  • Mushfiqur may struggle with keeping but i think most will in indian n england condition , i need his batting for sure so if his keeping goes to bad i have bairstrow

Steyn has done it twice

7/51 in vidarbha

5/23 in ahemdabad

That was way back in 2008 and 2010. They Steyn of recent times didnt look like he was capable of that. Wasim Akram for all his might was never able to run through Indian sides in whatever little chances he got playing in India. I do not recall Wasim picking wickets in heaps even in tests in Pakistan against India.

He did have the talents, but against Indians he was more of a good bowler than a great bowler.

Synergy very important, better if max players from one country. 7 players from 2017 Aussie team + 4 others, replace the openers and a couple of middle order bats to help Smith. Smith alone can match 2 of our middle order guys seeing that he is the greatest batsman since Bradman, undisputed.

So my team will be something like this

Latham

Karunaratne

Smith (c)

Root

Handscomb

Shakib

Wade (wk)

Cummins

Starc (will create rough for Lyon)

Lyon

Hazlewood

These guys will work better as a team because 7 Aussies, Aussie captain, 1 Pom, 1 Kiwi, 1 each from SL/BD. Can't form factions, Aussie dominance in decision making and all have to work as per that competitive,  never say die mantra.

Best openers possible, good MO esp against spin, nice mix of LHBs/RHBs (something India lacks), Lyon/Shakib spin duo which is as close as possible to Ash-Jaddu, strong tail, great fast bowling attack with variety, outstanding catching unit.

Might replace Karuna with Elgar in my XI, has been impressive this series. I chose Karuna initially because of his record in SC conditions and 4th innings credentials but Elgar has handled our spin duo better. Another advantage for Elgar is he can bowl at least 4-5 overs each day, him and Smith can be 6th/7th bowling options, couple of golden arms never hurts :dontknow:. IIRC Karuna struggled in the 2017 tests, never looked convincing. Will take that call after Ranchi test, 4th innings specialists are worth their weight in gold so Karuna stays for now.

Latham is a sure pick because not just is he a gun opener but outstanding fielder. Him, Smith, Handscomb, Root in catching positions will put Indian batsmen under some serious pressure. No weak link in fielding, Wade knows the (mainly) Aussie bowling better than most, strong slip cordon, close in catching (Latham, Handscomb !!!!), great outfielders, strong arms, no liability in the field.
