Placed Gavaskar's innings at the top because of his brilliance at Bangalore on the worst of cricket pitches with the ball turning square.Reminiscent of a surgeon performing an operation.At the Oval he took batting perfection to heights of divinty,morally winning a game for India from the depths of despair.

Majid Khan ressurected Pakistan from the grave with a calculated counterattack in a resolute stand of 166 with Zaheer Abbas.Abobe all against a great pace quartet.

Hanif Mohammad was the epitome of batting perfection at Barbados occupying the crease for 970 mins.

Sehwag took cricketing domination to heights of the sublime when making a triple century.Perhaps the most swashbuckling of cricketing triple centuries.In his double hundred at Galle he took batting prowess to it's ultimate zenith on a challenging track.


Saed Anwar was virtually a one man army giving a scintillating display of strokeplay on the most difficult of wickets.,which won the game for Pakistan.

Mohsin Khan exhibited subtle grace in his match-wining double century at Lords .

Majid Khan- An innings of Shakespearean proportions   . The tragedy of hamlet mixed with the romance of Romeo and the greed for runs equivalent to the merchant of Venice. Majid had  it all. A true epic was delivered there  for the ages.

 

Moshin Khan-beautiful Locks of shiny hair lightened up the gloomy lords stadium when a handsome beast like Moshin walked in to bat. A heart palpitation went through the 50 year old cougars wives of the lords members as they saw this man sticking out his glorious buttocks taking a stance to smash the Englishmen . A young cricket  writer spilled the elixir of life watching an innings that was for the ages. Never seen again. Oh Moshin you beautiful beautiful man.

How can you forget 195 by Virender Sehwag at MCG.

 

India leading 1-0 in the series, if he did not get out India could have won the series there and then vs Steve Waugh's Australia.

 

Virender Sehwag was a truly great player. Also along with Rohit Sharma the best the Indian Batsman to watch when in full flow in the last 20 years.

In the match before that Truman had Indian at 0/4 (zero runs for four wickets) Vinoo was roped in desperately urgently scored 72 in the first innings, then bowls 73 overs taking 5/196 followed by the 184 and a further 24 overs in Engs second innings- one of THE great test performances ever especially given the context

#1-Majid Khan's 167 against the feared West Indian bowling attack  70s in their home ground and their own umpires. No helmet and the team was away from home for more than three months by then. Extreme mental and physical toughness, skill and courage.

Sunny scoring 96 in his last test on a pitch that was spitting venom. I do not think any modern day maharathis including Ailaa would get into double digits on that pitch. The finest exhibition of batting against spin I have ever seen. He would frequently dance down the wicket to smother the spin or take it in full toss and either defend or drive.

 

And I have not even mentioned the ridiculous appealing by the Pakistanis where the whole team would be appealing and approaching the umprie like da fuq, why haven't you raised your finger, Hamdullah!

 

Period. End of story. Next question?

So? He wasn’t the captain. The captain Kapil played a loose shot. No one hung around. The question was best innings by a Indian opener, not best inning that won the test!
