Ankit_sharma03 Posted November 26, 2019 Posted November 26, 2019 Really good ideas like using Pathan up when ball was new, Choosing batting 2nd to get better at chases . That was actually a very exciting phase . sandsaims, Gollum, The Dark Horse and 2 others 1 4
zen Posted November 26, 2019 Posted November 26, 2019 Dravid was a good captain. IIRC, in ODIs, there was the substitution rule being tried as well which allowed Ind to compensate for a genuine AR

R!TTER Posted November 26, 2019 Posted November 26, 2019 Using Pathan as an A/R killed his career, at his debut he was the most exciting pace bowling prospect since Kapil but of course Greg had to have his A/R just like the half a dozen Oz (team) coaches after him.

No it didnt...he started messing with his action long before which ultimately made him loose his bowling. His bowling issues started before chappell came coz he kept changing his action and his fitness dropped a lot Gollum and sandsaims 2
jusarrived Posted November 26, 2019 Posted November 26, 2019 Dravid was a rare aggressive captain we have had, very different to his batting approach . I think we would have won a lot more under him than we did under Ganguly sandsaims and Gollum 2

Pathan was never that great . He was a medium pacer who could swing . Yeah he may have had longer career playing for India, but always thought he was a better bat than a bowler .

adi B Posted November 27, 2019 Posted November 27, 2019 That was a good time to be an Indian fan ,from 2005 October to 2006 may in odis . We had a young ,inexperienced team yet played like invincibles ,won 5-1 against srl,2-2 against saf ,4-1 against pak (that pak side was winning a lot at home) ,5-1 against England, 1-1 at sharjah etc but it all came crashing down with the windies series in may and then the saf tour . We were really good om SC conditions Gollum and diehardpacer 2
Oldhere Posted November 27, 2019 Posted November 27, 2019 Greg Tried to implement lot of good things. Him and Dravid were taking India the right way but lot of politics happened. Some Chappell's and lot from Dada gang. Chappell tried to change the culture too quickly and hence got lots of push back but somehow we are nowdays using a lot of his changes only. He wasnt as bad. His only issue was man management which he just couldnt work upon and hence always faced issues with all teams he was in coaching capacity. diehardpacer, Gollum and AuxiliA 3
retired_hurt Posted November 27, 2019 Posted November 27, 2019 (edited) Dravid was tactically more astute than Ganguly. He just wasnt assertive enough. I have read somewhere he wanted Kumble and Kaif but couldnt fight for them because he shared state with former and an agent with latter. Perhaps thought it would appear as favoritism to a person sitting outside. Perhaps if he had someone like Dalmiya at the helm, backing him up, we would have seen more confident version of Dravid. Yup the same ideas were executed better by dhoni n kirsten coz may b there man management was better. But cant deny those had very good ideas n they actually dnt get the credit they deserve 4 hours ago, Oldhere said: Chappell tried to change the culture too quickly and hence got lots of push back but somehow we are nowdays using a lot of his changes only. to his credit he shook our stars which was needed at that time 4 hours ago, Oldhere said: He wasnt as bad. Gollum Posted November 27, 2019 Posted November 27, 2019 (edited) Underrated coach Greg Chappell, our seniors needed a few kicks that time. It was Guru Greg who infused our system with youth and better fitness standards. Dravid so underrated as captain, was instrumental in our 2004 Pak triumph, WI/Eng overseas triumphs. Developed the ODI side into a good chasing team, before that we were scared of batting second, it was a conscious decision by RD/Greg to chase in every match irrespective of conditions and we even set a world record with 17 consecutive successful chases in 2006. By 2007 his batting declined so it was good to take responsibility off his shoulders. I was there at Eden the day India was booed, Rahul got lots of boos as well. Disgraceful day in Indian cricket, Kolkata shamed us all over petty regionalism. MC curator gave a greentop that day, our boys walked into an ambush. If not for that i think yuvraj wudnt have become the player he became, those kick to ganguly n sachin injury gave him chane up the order or else he was being wasted at 6.7. Even dhoni development was due to these guys who made him bat all over the batting in different situations Infact that phase was needed coz ganguly went into a phase were it was all about his favs and new blood wasnt coming. Dravid n chappell took guys like sreesanth, chawla, uthappa from challenger trophy and started this trend of getting many many youngsters. We need a phase like that again where young players are being bought n made to play in diff situation without caring to much about results. Gollum and diehardpacer 2

Dravid was tactically one of the best captains to play for india in the past few decades. I have always wondered what kind of a captain Ashwin would make. I think he has the tactical ability, but has a huge ego and lacks patience to boot... so not a good choice, I guess. Real McCoy and Gollum 2

Even under Ganguly, he was there to give inputs and probably did so under Dhoni standing at first slip. He doesn't take credit away from others even though he might have helped them. That's another thing admirable about him. He was an underrated captain and was responsible for our current habit of chasing scores in ODIs. He went outside his comfort zone to work on his weaknesses at the early part of his ODI career and his form slump against Aus in that 2001 series. Similarly he identified the team's weaknesses of chasing and put the team on chasing no matter the conditions and made it a strength. Vijy 1
Khota Posted December 1, 2019 Posted December 1, 2019 Dravid is a good honest person and BCCI should be thankful that he still contributes. Unlike Gavaskar this man is not a politician.
