Credit to Dussen though, despite such good domestic record, he did not go the Kalpak route. My point was about looking promising.
G_B_ Posted January 2, 2020 Posted January 2, 2020 The problem i see is that their white south african population of 4.5 million is not growing and is rapidly aging due to young white south africans moving away. This segment produced cricketers in bulk. The question in my mind is will the asian and coloured segments (similar in pop combined to whites) be able to continue to produce world class cricketers. This segment has produced the likes of philander amla etc. If this segment starts producing good calibre of cricketers regularly, things will be fine. The kolpak thing will come to an end in a few years as brexit kicks in and the uk is not bound by eu laws. Only the best of the best in sa will make it through to the foreign player quota. But there are deeper demographic issues at play
G_B_ Posted January 2, 2020 Posted January 2, 2020 And while not wanting to divert the topic, sri Lanka is another country with a rapidly aging pop and lacks the proper financial or infra to make the most of their 3 to 4 million male talent base While we talk about wi decline etc, fundamentally we forget they have a combined pop of 5 odd million. This combined with lack of proper infra meant once we entered the professional era they were ill equipped express bowling and Vk1 2
SecondSlip Posted March 8, 2020 Author Posted March 8, 2020 BUMP! They have just whitewashed a full strength Australian side without Rabada and Du Plessis! Watch out for their new opener Janneman Malan. This guy will make an awesome opening partner with De Kock going forward! Vickydev, nevada and Vk1 3

Not sure they can keep this up with the quota rule in SA. Shamsi will be back though

The likes of Malan, Klaasen, Bavuma, Nortje were part of the SA A side that got hammered by India A last year. Look at the progress these guys have made while ours are going backwards. Except Iyer nobody has got opportunities. Our talent management is horrible atm. nevada, Vk1 and sergio04 1 2
Suhaan Posted March 8, 2020 Posted March 8, 2020 (edited) The superstar culture and demigod status of few guys will always act as a major hurdle for young promising guys to come in,there are many yesman who will be wagging their tails like shastri at every injustice done Edited March 8, 2020 by Suhaan Vk1, raki05 and sergio04 3
Cricketphile Posted March 8, 2020 Posted March 8, 2020 Let’s see how they do in India next. Most teams look strong at home these days and these short series don’t mean much. Australia isn’t the best odi team going around as well Ankit_sharma03 1

Autonomous Posted March 8, 2020 Posted March 8, 2020 I think there is limited talent pool to pick players from in sub continent. I can't say anything about India but in Pakistan, only low and lower middle class kids pursue sports. Rest of them are not in it because they usually commit themselves to full time studies, on top of there being non-existant sports activities in schools. Umar Amin, Salman Butt, Misbah and Sohaib Maqsood are probably only educated cricketers to play for Pakistan recently.
