Has Navdeep Saini come off age?

He needs to replace Ishant. I know people like Ishant 2.0 I like him too but Saini is a top prospect to be waiting in the wings. He is already 27 and has all the tools to be an intelligent bowler unlike Ishant 1.0. Ishant 2.0 also has reduced pace. And I don't like the fact that he is buddy buddy with the kaptaan. Same is the issue with Dhawan. At the very least, Saini should get a game in the NZ test series.

Accha. Ok, if you say so:phehe:

But on a serious note, there needs to be a transition towards Saini. But we also need to phase out Ishant in a respectful manner. and as well as such that it doesnt affect the team balance.

In all likelihood, Ishant will be a permanent setup in the test squad as its the only format he fits in. All because of our kaptaan is buttbuddy of Ishant. Ishant has a different set of tools if you get my drift  If in the unlikely case that Kohli comes to his senses and act logical, then there is no way to phase out Ishant in a "respectful manner". Maybe he could get "injured" as many Indian cricketers were said to be so. In the recent series against SA, Kohli opted for Shami and Yadav as the only pacers. Was Ishant "injured" in the series. So there is a possibility that he can act in the team's interests. One can only hope.

Good saini is getting his chances. I think he may get picked in t20 cup n may be ahead of bhuvi..

Shammi saini bumrah hardik and one spinner should be our attack in t20 world cup.

4 good bowlers n hardik

N 6 batsmen including keeper.

Prasidh n bhuvi or chahar could be back up Pacers. Dube may not make it.

Shreyas rohit virat kl rahul are confirmed.

Didn't Kohli give Bumrah debut over Ishant in SA. Ishant is in the team as he is the workhorse who will bowl 20 overs in a day giving away very few runs. This is so important on away tours where captain craves for control. This notion that Ishant is buddy of the captain so he is in the team is ridiculous. Ishant was dropped against SA for third test but Umesh played that test.

Saini will get his chances all he needs to do is keep improving, he has odis and t20s in NZ to state his case for playing  first test in NZ.Ishant is not indespensible but he certainly is not getting a free ride.

Bumrah should have been playing Tests in 2017, even 2016. Kohli did no favours to play him ahead of Ishant (who BTW had been poor for over 2 years at that time). Kohli was left with no choice.

Hopefully Saini forces the captain fool’s hands likewise to give him a Test debut in NZ

Bumrah was not even part of the test squad in 2017, so shut it with this nonsense that Kohli delayed his entry. Even in 2018 Kohli was left with choice of selecting Bumrah or Ishant.Ishant has been the workhorse of this bowling attack since 2013 .

Bumrah since his debut has already missed so many test matches .You need a guy like Ishant who is durable for a fast bowler.

Saini also did not deserve to be selected ahead of the four fast bowlers. Youngsters are selected for one format, it is upto them to force their way into other formats. If Saini does not play first test in NZ then also it is a not blunder in selection.

Who was responsible for Bumrah not even being in the Test squad in 2017? Some Martians? Or is the captain fool there to just claim credit for someone’s success?

I don't think captain is responsible for squad selection he can pick the playing 11 though. Infact Kohli was trolled heavily when bumrah went at 4 rpo in his debut innings ,calling bumrah doesn't suit for tests. Kohli did so many mistakes with his choices but this is not one of them.

What's wrong with our fans praying for a player like ishant to be dropped when he did nothing wrong. His avg in 2018 - 21, avg in 2019 - 15. What more do you want?

It is more a case of picking a pacer who can bowl accurately at express pace ( Saini ) , rather than dropping Ishant.

An accurate express bowler is a rare rare commodity.  Such bowlers can create deep discomfort in the opposition side ... no one likes to face accurate express pace.  And suddenly dismiss a set batsman, who could not be dismissed by others.

No way should such a bowler be left out.

And Bumrah is the first pick ( who himself is an accurate and very quick pacer ).

Pick your 3rd pacer after that.

Anybody here for a pace quartet? I am in full support of Bumrah, Shami, Ishant and Saini playing in NZ and Aus. No Hardik Pandya or spinners.

Count me in

Over rate may be a problem though

I think it is possible if ....

6. Jadeja

7. Pant

8. Ishant

9. Shami

10. Saini

11. Bumrah

Jadeja is averaging 50 with the bat in test matches in the last 3 years.  And from 23 tests ... so the sample size is large enough. I think he can bat at 6 and we can play 4 fast bowlers, unless it is a green top where the extra batsman is needed. But NZ pitches are usually flat these days.

If Jadeja can hold his own with bat then I would play 4 fast bowlers all wicket takers in Australia too .

Are you fricking kidding me. Kohli unlike any captain in Indian history has built the confidence of fast bowlers.

He has totally changed the culture is pace bowling in india....

Not just pace bowling but also spinners....

People fail to understand how important is for fast bowler to get his captain's backing.Kohli after depending so much on spinners early in his captaincy laid ground work to create this fast bowling attack. SA 2015 series vs SA 2019 series should show everyone how Indian fast bowling has evolved .
