It was very good but still it came on much flat pitches compared to what we get in nz/eng/sa. Aus pace bowlers were pretty low in confidence since sa series and not having two most important players from your team doesn't help. Still very good effort from pujara but that's just 1 great overseas series for him in whole decade imo.

Underperformed in Eng and NZ, that's true. that implies he is also responsible for the major share of debacles as well.

Frustrated Posted February 26, 2020 Posted February 26, 2020 How can U make someone captain whose place in the playing 11 is not even secured? Pujara's record in SENA is garbage. (Except for a few decent knocks in Australia, he has been a passenger in the side). He was and still is a FTB. Nothing will change unfortunately. As age is not in his favour either.

Average 32 Take the 521 runs on that excellent Australia series of 2018.. 1240 runs from 49 inn with one not out.. Average 25.83 I think he needs to do more outside to be deserving of his no.3 position and then Captaincy issue can arise. Some people consider him an ATG already.. We will soon be at a stage of anyone but Kohli as captain. Except for some fake on field antics, the guy has become arrogant and insecure. With a clueless coach, who is there just to massage captain’s ego, the combo will only further damage our cricket. If the solution is for Pujara as interim captain in Tests, so be it.

Earlier he had hit 100s in SA (may be 5-6 years or so ago) as well .... Even Sehwag is similar in a way (though both play with contrasting styles) .... Apart from Kohli, no one has a great all round record. Neither did many of the batsmen in the past .... Even Javed Miandad in tests (not ODIs) is similar Currently, he has the best avg at 3 in SENA "away" in the last two years: View overall figures [change view] Opposition team Australia or England or New Zealand or South Africa Home or away away (home of opposition) Start of match date greater than or equal to 1 Jan 2018 Batting position equal to 3 Qualifications innings batted greater than or equal to 6 Ordered by batting average (descending) Page 1 of 1 Showing 1 - 5 of 5 First Previous Next Last Return to query menu Cleared query menu Overall figures Player Span Mat Inns NO Runs HS Ave BF SR 100 50 0 4s 6s CA Pujara (INDIA) 2018-2020 12 22 1 920 193 43.80 2439 37.72 4 3 3 99 2 JL Denly (ENG) 2019-2020 6 10 0 323 74 32.30 912 35.41 0 2 0 40 3 Haris Sohail (PAK) 2018-2019 3 6 1 123 39* 24.60 219 56.16 0 0 0 17 1 UT Khawaja (AUS) 2018-2019 7 14 0 287 75 20.50 497 57.74 0 2 0 45 0 LD Chandimal (SL) 2018-2019 3 6 0 86 56 14.33 283 30.38 0 1 1 9 0 If his avg was going down, then past record would have merit. Our previous No.3 Dravid averaged 53.8 outside subcontinent (SENA + WI+ ZIM) over an entire career. Sachin Averages close to 51. Dravid or Sachin are not in consideration for a spot at #3 currently Quote Pujara should be at peak of his game at 32 years old. The decline will come and then Average will take a hit.. Sachin, Ponting, Dravid and lot of others dropped their average by 5-7 runs after their peak.. Mostly after 34/35 age. When the decline comes, the options would be evaluated (who is saying Pujara has to play even if he has declined) Kohli-Pujara are two of India's best and experienced test batsmen atm .... Pujara does not even play in other formats including IPL (where international cricketers also play) so it is commendable that he is able to perform despite only getting to play a handful of international games relatively speaking! zen Posted February 29, 2020 Author Posted February 29, 2020 Captain P + a Kiwi coach (crafty customers so plan well)
Frustrated Posted February 29, 2020 Posted February 29, 2020 (edited) ChePu played a decent inning. But as usual had a brain fart. He is exactly the sort of player who never deserves to be the captain of any team. (Nor does rat deserve it either ) Edited February 29, 2020 by Frustrated
sandsaims Posted February 29, 2020 Posted February 29, 2020 Captain moron before the start of the series said he wouldnt mind sharing the no.1 spot with the kiwis and looks like he has gone a long way to make it happen. The quicker we get rid of him and Shastri the better for Indian cricket. Jimmy Cliff 1
zen Posted February 29, 2020 Author Posted February 29, 2020 Under Captain P, we could have done better in NZ as some of the selections would have been better and players would have tried to play proper test match cricket. “Intent” and making the players feel that eventually they will get a ball with their name written on it made these guys throw caution to the wind costing Ind at least a 100 runs. One of the keys to leadership is understanding each players strength and helping them channelize it on the field.
zen Posted January 11, 2021 Author Posted January 11, 2021 Unless he wants to focus on his batting, the guy who understands test cricket the best in India needs to be the captain (and not face politics) Cricspin and Laaloo 2
