Pandya and Jadeja at No. 6 and 7 is a recipe for failure

Hardik is good enough for 6, in fact he could be long term no 5, if he gets in the middle overs and bats through, could really set some big scores

I agree that Jadeja is maybe a spot high, and that is mainly given our tail is made up of four no 11's. Get Bhuvi in for Saini and it looks better a bit

The bigger problem is lack of a 6th bowler, a few overs today, could have broken a partnership or at least stopped Chahal and Saini being smashed. The same team with a bowling Hardik is almost a  good one

Brilliant 90 by SDP under pressure and w/ Aus firing all cylinders ... the only real batsman for Ind today!

Bossed pacey short stuff and spin .... Aus is a perfect place for strokemakers like him .... Should be included in the test matches too as he can even play a few magical knocks to win a test!

Different options to pick for once Pandya starts bowling a bit:-

1) Pandya at 6 & Shankar at 7

2) Pandya at 6 & Tewatia at 7

3) Pandya at 6 & Samad at 7

@zen what do you think for ODIs?

Shankar is more suited to play in the top 4 (at times, can struggle when chasing too), while Samad needs to be developed for future by making in play in more A games and against weaker teams in bilaterals .... Right now Tewatia looks the most ready (and has the fighting spirit too)

Pandya is the perfect No.6 IMHO.

Proved it today again.

No.7 is too low for him.

he has been good to bat at 5 for long problem is who will do the dirty job at 6,7 ??  This team needs hardik bowling n Samad developing Asap or also pant in form to solve this problem

My suggestion would be to drop Iyer and move Rahul and Pandya one spot up and Pant at 6. Drop Jadeja and Chahal for Sundar and Kuldeep. Sundar opens the batting for TN and can handle bounce unlike Jaddu. Kuldeep is way better in bowling and batting than chahal. Also Kully is not a mental midget like Chahal. As @zen mentioned, we need to push for Samad in the future. He can not only hit sixes but can also score off of pace and short stuff.

Edit: Pant can also keep and bring energy into the field with his constant chattering

Yeah totally forgot about tewatia. Don't know about his hitting against bounce and pace. Shankar is a top order bat mostly no.4 he is not used to come in late and score a quick 50. Samad looks promising

Maybe use him as a floater, depending on situations you play him. Atleast he is a better batsmen than Jadeja and bowling can be shared between Pandya and Shankar.

Will prefer Tewatia if it works for a long run and is not a one-off.

No he is not no6 , he is no7 unless he bowls he makes this team weaker.

Yes give him about 15 chances more.

Why should not he get chances, what has he done wrong? Who is there to replace him who is that great.

look i have come up with theory now that dnt look at matches look at his game

Now if he gets 15 matches he ll gets  weak side or easy wkts to show runs but does that mean he has learned to play hard length - No, so look for improvement rather numbers. If he improves give him 30 matches . We did the same mistake with rayudu got him back without checking that has he improved his game, he scored some soft runs and when his test came he failed

Basically we have to see how he bats against 145+ bowlers.

exactly not just that but specially how he counters hard length, if he adapts quickly then he shudnt have the problem. There is always scope for improvement

Actually its not about 145 but about that hard length, even when he scored runs in WI he struggled a bit when holder bowled some balls in that area.....its not pace its a length thats his issue

Iyer has an even bigger issue against short balls.
