Saini in place of Umesh, is a forced change

Rahul in place of Mayank is the only actual change I am in favour of

Not because Rahul is a great test player ... but because Mayank has developed technical issues which cannot be sorted out in 7 days.

Playing Rohit makes no sense. Neither is he a good test batsman in SENA ... nor has he got any match practice in Australia.

You again wanna go with Vihari.!

What more proofs do you need.

Vihari is a limited player and not fit enough to play at 6.

Bahut chances mil gaye.

vihari looked good against old ball in the 1st innings, got out with a soft dismissal. may get runs in sydney. we have to replace mayank, either with klr or rohit. my 1st choice would be klr, he is amongst runs. but he will have to negotiate starc and cummins 1st up.

Why not Tyagi  ?

And if the TM have no faith in Saini then why include him in all 3 squads. Ridiculous !!

I am not sure why posters are so sure that Vihari is better option than rohit?

Both have played 5 tests in Australia..

Rohit's scores:

42, 6, 32, 0, 53, 39, 37, 1, 63*, 5

Vihari's scores:

20, 28, 8, 13, 42, -, 16, 8, 21, 8

He only managed to break the 30 barrier once. Rohit definitely has higher ceiling than Vihari

Including Natrajan in the 15, not in playing XI. Which makes sense since Saini will be playing and you need to have like for like replacements in unfortunate case of concussion, or a last minute injury to a bowler.

Why not Shardul, if there is no other choice ? Among the two, Shardul is a better 5 day bowler than Natarajan.

Why not Shardul, if there is no other choice ? He has more experience of playing Unofficial tests for our A-team.

Shardul is not good enough for Test cricket. Understand that his connections have got him so far, even playing before Siraj because he is **** but this is were it should end as far as competitive cricket is concerned. He should be happy with some sniff around the T20 team.

MA needs to go, unless the next pitch is a repeat of the Ashes 2017/18 test KL should slot in to open in his stead. The guy can't last even 10 overs, I'd rather have someone who's in better form atm, or get Pujara/Vihari to open with RGS coming down the order?

I completely trust the leadership and judgement of Skipper Rahane when it comes to making the big calls on selection - across the board.  He has proved that he has what it  takes to make the big selection calls - time and again.  Picking Kuldeep in Dharamsala, picking Jadeja in this test.

I trust him.  oh about a 1000000 times more than Kuptaan Koach's random team generator which made a big public show about 'squad' is more important than team, while constantly making dumb as doornail selection calls from England to SA.

I know that ... and am totally opposed to Shardul in the team in normal circumstances.

But if they are thinking about including Natarajan in the test squad then Shardul is better than him in the 5 day format.

This is only in the circumstance we are facing now ... that is no new players can be flown in and only choices available are Shardul and Natarajan.

Those are the exact 2 changes I want to see in the team. However, I am not very sure if I'd want Rohit in the team. I am not convinced about his test credentials. Sadly, we do not have any other option.

Just read that Natarajan will be included in the 3rd test which if done, will be a disaster!

I agree.  Also @express bowling hasalready done an incisive analysis of why that would be bad.

A so far T20 player with skills not fully explored being shanghaied into the gruelling and draining environs of a Test? Bad for India, and bad for poor Natarajan too.

who knows if rohit is motivated enough he might do well

Someone needs to stitch Samsung and Marriott Bonvoy logos on his undergarments to provide proper motivation.

One of the biggest criticisms of Kohli was that players were dropped too often without the security of a consistent run. Agarwal and Vihari may have had a couple of bad games, but mentally both seem to be in the games trying to sort it out. Plus they were part of a team that fought and won us a test match. Let’s not repeat the same mistake by messing with the team’s chemistry and dropping them now. I say, in the absence of injury, let the same team play thru the series.

I think rohit should play in place or vihari not mayank as rohit too is walking wicket against new ball but vs old ball he can actually be good.

Also KL should open instead of mayank, yeh mayank shud get more chances but not when series is on line and you get out in single digit everytime, one early wicket immediately kills team morale.

Though obviously same goes for Rahul/rohit ,if they dont perform they too should be booted

What you mean by team chemistry?

Neither of them has scored any runs, also vihari hasnt bowled at all and both of them are deadweight  as of now.

At worst new players will do the same but atleast there is a chance they ll do better.

Just look at how shubhman completly changed the match.

I do like backing up players but not when they have appearent technical fault and are not contributing at all.

Even 30 from either rahul/rohit can turn the match.

Btw kohli was criticised for dropping successful players from tours and this is not same as these 2 arent performing at all.

This exactly.

But rohit must not Open.

And also knowing clowns of selection we can be sure they ll make rohit open.
