How is the "bellygate" likely to impact team Ind? In the worst case scenario, if the "5" players are made unavailable, below could be the 11:

In-form players gone are Gill & Pant. Saini may have been useful to bowl bouncers on a relatively flat pitch (used like Wagner for e.g.)

If the investigation proves that its a breach, Rohit should be suspended for being so irresponsible as the VC and senior. Could very well call curtains on his test career. But the young players can be shown some leniency

There is an investigation going on so "policy" violations may come into play  .... trying to understand the implications from an official PoV

Haven't followed BBL but two Brisbane Heat players were fined for breaching minor protocols - Link

 

"Having a photo with a fan at a licensed venue and travelling in a taxi seem pretty low risk but they were identified in our briefings as examples of things you couldn't do. I was probably lulled into a false sense of security that because everything has been improving around the country, we were getting closer to normal behaviour. But the rules, including avoiding close contact, are there to protect the BBL competition and all the players and teams and I do apologise sincerely to everyone for jeopardising that. I reckon if it was one or two players, then they would have most likely axed them but 5 players is a bit of a stretch..... don't see it happening

Iyer has been released. KL can open but Saha will keep in that scenario and bat at 7 below Jadeja.

In subcon, at times, many folks can bend laws to suit their agenda. At midnight, if the traffic light is red and there is no traffic, many would run the red light (stopping would be seen as foolish). There is also a tendency to undermine a mistake by projecting it as not a more heinous crime such as it is not a murder, but only a ... (use of logical fallacies) 

 

Despite knowing that food needs to be consumed outdoors, the 5 willingly dined indoors. While BCCI may try to sweep it under the carpet, I will not mind it even if these 5 are handed a one test ban (and/or a big fine, a viable option too). It can, hopefully, also send a message to those in subcon to respect biosecurity protocols relatively more

That should serve the purpose of sending the message that rules are not to be taken lightly.

 

Banning them would adversely affect our team performance in test 3.

 

Why should India and Team India suffer because of foolish behaviour by 5 individuals  ??

England banned Archer for a test against West Indies, though it was probably easier decision since it was home test against West Indies

England can do whatever they want.

 

Does not concern us.

 

There are 2 issues here 

 

1)  Is there any material risk to the other players ?

 

----  The local health authorities can ascertain this after considering whether there are any new cases in that area and whether such cases are being quarantined properly etc.

 

If freely moving around is allowed and dining indoors is allowed for normal people, does not look like there is any material risk.

 

2)  Not encouraging any breach of rules by players

 

----  A hefty fine should serve this purpose

The real question is whether they violated local government rules or some arrangement between BCCI and CA. If government rules were breached then the entire tour could be at risk (unlikely since public was also eating indoors). If it’s a BCCI- CA issue, my guess is that they will work something out because CA wants the revenues from the India games. Maybe warnings might be it. Overall, between IPL and this series, our team has shown a lot of discipline. On a human level, I get why these 5 players thought this was low risk and wanted to enjoy a little evening out. Rest, authorities close to the situation will have to evaluate.
