express bowling
The ideal kind of pacer is the one who combines pace and bounce with objectivity and accuracy. Like Jasprit Bumrah or Pat Cummins. Like Md.Shami in test matches. But such pacers are not easy to find if the main pacers are injured. Similarly, the ideal test batsman is one who can play strokes when needed and consolidate when the game demands. Like Kohli or Smith. But again not easy to find that many such batters. Which is why pairing Pant with Pujara works. Bumrah is injured. He should not be played in the 4th test. Otherwise, his injury may get aggravated and his body maybe permanently harmed. In such a case, it is important to mix and match the different types of pacers to create a balanced pace attack. Siraj is bowling an excellent line and length. This is very important. But he was bowling 124 k to 132 k in some spells. This is too slow. But can't be rectified mid series. Shardul may bowl a decent line and length but lacks both extra pace and height. Saini has pace and a good bouncer ... but can go for runs in certain spells. Tyagi has a lot of pace and bounce ... is tall ... has a nasty and accurate bouncer. But lacks experience. May lack accuracy with some length balls too. None of above pacers are perfect. And all are inexperienced. Plus Ashwin is not fully fit too, but will be needed for his batting. Which is why we need 4 pacers to cover for someone having a bad session. And combine say Siraj with Saini or Shardul with Tyagi. Use Tyagi in short spells. He has a very dangerous bouncer. Tell him to bowl 4 to 5 bouncers / rising balls at the neck. And a couple of fuller balls at the stumps. Set adequate fields for such an attack. He may get a few wickets on bouncy Gabba. Here is Tyagi bowling quick. Look at his bouncers. https://www.iplt20.com/video/213359/kartik-tyagi-s-maiden-ipl-wicket With so many injuries, we have nothing to lose. Let's try something which can upset the Aussie batters. The nasty bouncers of Tyagi on bouncy Gabba. @Mosher, @Rightarmfast, @Suhaan, @RAZPOR have written about Tyagi's inclusion in other threads too. Lone Wolf
Too raw atm.. Can go Naseem Shah way. Let him go for a few A tours I think. He has potential no doubt. I wish we had someone like Prasidh Krishna there as well. It would have been a ideal place for him to debut. I think India will opt for Safety first & Shardul will play along with perhaps Kuldeep. sandeep 1 Link to comment

NameGoesHere
Our bowling lineup should be Siraj, Saini, Tyagi, Thakur and Ashwin (Kuldeep if Ashwin is injured). beetle 1 Link to comment
Forward Defence
Feel for the guys who will be making selection decisions for the next test. One would have thought that after so many injuries the 11 might be automatically finalized. It is kind of a good sign that we still have options, however imperfect they may be. The two options for India to ponder over right now is whether 1.)to strengthen the batting and play four bowlers OR 2.) to play five bowlers (4 fast bowlers with a combined experience of 3 tests + 1.5 overs and a spinner ) The first option is the conservative approach. Putting up 400+ on the board in the first innings is sort of a must in order to avoid defeat. We have actually achieved this in our last 2 efforts at the Gabba but still lost a test match in 2014(due to the inability to get Johnson and Starc out). It also must be said that despite our awe inspiring last innings effort at Sydney our overall batting frailties are well documented and a collapse is not an impossibility even with 7 batsmen. Another problem is that with four bowlers we might end up overusing one or two and risk more injuries. This would be a disaster with the England tour coming up. Picking five bowlers would be the more radical approach and the management will cop a great deal of criticism if it does not work out. However I feel in many ways this is the correct way forward. The batting has to work well for both scenarios and an extra Shaw at no 6 or 7 may not produce wonders if the other six fail. However if it comes good who knows some of our rookie pacemen may just provide something spectacular. Not sure if Tyagi will be picked before Natarajan as he wasn't named Umesh's replacement. Both bowlers have different skill sets and may fall short in this test match. Personally I would like to see Tyagi for his pace but would totally understand if Natarajan was picked (first class exp etc). Whatever be the selection decisions, I will look forward to the next test with zero expectations and loads of hope. Maybe the hours of viewing and pondering over the game will all turn out futile if we lose. But what the heck, this team deserves it. Rightarmfast 1 Link to comment

That means we just have Shaw as the 6th batsman ... and he is having major technical issues. Which is why I feel that having 4 fast bowlers + Ashwin will be better. Playing just 3 rookie pacers is very risky. Say if Shardul or Saini starts leaking runs ... Ashwin is not fully fit ... We need some cover. Rightarmfast
I would mix Siraj with Tyagi and Saini and Thakur. Siraj can move the ball and strategize to outthink batsmen, and Tyagi will be the ideal foil for him, bowling a max of 3 overs per spell. Whereas, Shardul can be given the role of workhorse for long spells. He can sustain that. Just bowl to a line and length. Saini will need to go all out too, and all aggressive. My instinct says this will rattle the aussies. Even if Tyagi performs bad, I doubt he will go the Naseem way because he will have a lot of cushion to fall back upon. nevada, express bowling, Mariyam and 2 others 5 Link to comment

We need to be radical with Kohli, Bumrah, Shami, Jadeja, Umesh, Ishant, Vihari missing ... And Pant, Ashwin injured. The apparently safe approach is not an actual safe approach in such cases. putrevus
Bouncers won't get many wickets, Tyagi looks like he has good outswinger. He is young and should be raring to go.India has nothing to lose they just have to fight and give their best. Rightarmfast 1 Link to comment

The reason I have talked about bouncers is because Tyagi kept bowling lots of good bouncers in the 2nd innings of the practice match ... and all the batsmen were in trouble. A couple of catches lobbed up but fell in no man's land Rightarmfast and Mosher 2 Link to comment

Sandeep99
Are we sure Ashwin is not playing at Brisbane? If he does play, he will pick up most wickets. Short leg and leg slip will be super busy throughout the game. Link to comment

I think Tyagi is worth a gamble. He is raw, but with good guidance from coach and on field help, he could do a good job. Besides, we have no other weapons in the reserves. express bowling 1 Link to comment
Vickydev
Depends on Ashwin's availability..looks like Sundar might play in place of Jadeja, so we could go 4 pacers only if Ashwin isnt fit. Tbh I see us going the way of Shardul replacing Bumrah and going for the safe option with the extra batting that he brings. Link to comment
Suhaan
Tyagi will do well if he is played ,yes he should be our 4 th pacer Kuldeep too hasn't bowled much,i dont expect him to find his line straightaway aginst Smith,Warner If Ashwin is fit play him as fifth bowler express bowling, Mosher and Rightarmfast 3 Link to comment
