What happened to Lyon?

He took 6 wickets at 57.67 in the first three tests. Even Jadeja outbowled him in just two matches.. is he declining or has indian batsmen worked him out finally? Or is it just that pacers are taking all the wickets?

in 2012 tour: played only 3 matches- 7 wicekts at 41

2014 tour: 23 wickets at 34.8

2018 tour: 21 wickets at 30.43

He has still looked threatening in patches. Happens when you have a reputation team will work extra hard to not give you wickets and prepare better. Reason why Bumrah and Ashwin also haven’t got the returns they deserved for their bowling.

ashwin is actually having his best ever tour in australia though. And Cummins is having his best series against India and he is the no.1 bowler right now, can't have higher reputation

Also I think India can play spin better on spin friendly surfaces than on bouncy/pacy wickets. They tend to over attack spinners because they know they have a uphill battle against fast bowlers in those pitches.

Lyon should have been a bigger threat in pink ball game,MCG or will be at Gabba than he was at SCG. He was pretty good in the pink ball test too IIRC.

Actually his myth has grown due to Saha s and Rohits crazy shots in adelaide chase in 2014.. india were cruising and then suddenly Vijay got out for 98 and everything fell apart. Stupid Rohit played an extravagant shot, Saha hit a six and again wanted to hit a six  and was stumped.. and india lost.. from that test he became a menace..

In last innings Pujara n pant didnt let him settle and ashwin gave a masterclass on how to play lyon.

Pujara kept charging at him and pant just attacked him like sehwag wud attack a spinner. Gill also plays spin very well

Pujara looked clueless against lyon. There were so many bat pad catches that could have easily gone to the fielder as well as close low shouts where he didn’t offer shots. It wasn’t until Pant who just blasted him out of the attack. Australia would have walked all over us if it Pant played Lyon like pujara did. Yes I am aware of the dropped catch by Paine off of Pant.

I am sure Kohli would've struggled against him.  He has looked threatening for small periods but ultimately pacers are doing the damage.  Gill,  Pant like to use their feet against him & are getting successful.  Pujara looked like a walking wicket against him bar last inns where I think he finally found a way.

Yea pujara did try to unsettle his line, on a 5th day wkt those edges will come.  Pujara approached it well this innings. Pant took him to cleaners coz he cud. But batsman charging down to him both sides didnt let him put it on one spot consistently.

Not Pujara...I saw Pujara batting against him and he never looked confident against Lyon. Had it not been pant we would have collapsed against Lyon.

Oh gosh the pain.. how did we lose this match. Yes Rohit didnt play extravagant shot which he unfortunately played in Adelaide in 2018 first innings which we fortunately won. But this video brings back sad memories..pitch was not a minefield.. fast bowlers were being played with ease.. we should have won this.. but again who knows if India won it Dhoni might not have retired!!

catches -- plural, not singular

Players like Pant are required to put these spinners in place. Do remember, most of our last inning collapses, even overseas, was triggered by spinners, some even part time spinners

Even at home O keefe, Panesar, Swann,Shaun Udal ( incredible)..and Moeen Ali in England..and the most gutting one .. Herath ( we lost that match though we had a lead of 189 freaking runssss)
