No need to put all seniors in one team. End of the day all 22 players will be getting match practice, so shouldn't matter which team they are in..

I want to see Ashwin vs Pujara, Bumrah vs Kohli in a test match

Oh yes...  Now That's ideal.  Instead of playing 2nd grade county sides.

I still hope BCCI does something for WTC final as well once we make it.  Even a 3 day game vs India A would be enough.

Take a bigger pool of players..  Get Warrier Prasidh Tyagi in as well & rotate them in Warm up games.  Don't try to burn out your premier pacers before 5 match series

Sounds exciting.

I do hope Kohli-Shastri, if they remain in their positions by then, don't mess up by cancelling this for simulated practice BS which they so strongly believe in. Treat those as two unofficial tests and make sure the top 22 players in the country are available and play in them. No 13 plays 13 with 11 batting and 11 bowling BS either.

At best, the senior seamers Bumrah, Shami and Ishant should be rotated in the two matches to keep them fresh

Read it in the BCCI app some time back.

It is a really wonderful idea !!

We should arrange for 2 such matches before every away tour.

And if some youngster looks really good, he can be an injury substitute too, while being used to the conditions.

And the senior team will be able to assess the ability of these youngsters too.

India A means the new next-in-line players getting chances.

Your 2 teams are basically the chosen squad of 18  ... + 3 new players.

Some new players that need to be tried in India A

Pacers  ... Tyagi, Prasidh, Avesh, Mavi

Spinners ... Rahul Chahar

Batsmen ... Padikkal, Shaw, Shankar, Easwaran

yea thats how it wud be unless whole A-tour is planned. If its like how aussies did it in ashes they ll send 24-25 players which is what i made....what ur making is 2 huge squads one for india senior tour and one for India-A tour which we are not sure as of now . A whole India A tour means sending another contingent of 20 players means a 40 man travelling squad.

I think there is a whole India A tour planned as well.

Its a win win for everybody. This is as good a contest we will get outside maybe the top 5-6 international test teams.

Plus a chance for the reserves to put a benchmark in front of the big boys and see if they can break in if somebody breaks down mid tour. Cant wait to see the likes of Porel, Tyagi bowling to Pujara and Kohli in a match situation.

Quite clearly the performance of the back up players down under have impressed Shastri and co about how prepared and deep our reserves are. They need to make the full use of it.

Was a big reason why Oz did as well as they had in Eng last Ashes, it's actually better than whatever the crap ECB pulls regularly over there!

Cricinfo has this additional detail

India A also have fixtures against Derbyshire and Essex pencilled in as part of their tour to England, as well as a four-day warm-up match against a 'First-Class Counties Select XI' at Grace Road from July 12, with the details of that fixtures unconfirmed. It is understood that an England Lions team could be picked to play in that game, though that would involve pulling players out of their County Championship commitments.

Does this mean our test specialists and some of the youngsters can play 5 practice matches in total before the tests? or are the matches vs county sides part of the LOI warmup? Even if they are 3 proper FC matches before the Test series starts will be great. Hope the TM doesn't mess-up and treats these practice matches as competitive FC matches

Was about to say the same. IIRC Indian team had complained in past that ECB has been not giving decent players as opposition in warm up games. It will help to choose best eleven as their is big possibility that some non playing eleven may shne
