What type of pitch should the Indians opt for the second Test at same venue?

Same Win Toss Flat pitch

where bat for the first two days and bowl out the opposition.

Risk involved : If England win the toss, we could have a repeat of the first test and there will be no chance of a comeback against after England get a mammoth first innings total

Or

a Rank Turner ?

You can't get a bouncy pitch in Chennai. It either has to be like the one in first test or a rank turner. I will go with a rank turner as it makes the game even and does not favour team batting first too much.

I would rather go for a rank turner and have kuldeep ashwin into play from day 1. Except Root and Sibley no one can play spin well. Buttler gone now. Foakes in. Crawley i m not sure. So go with your core competencies. Every team will have one key player and you have to accept it and go on. On 2018 India tour of England Kohli was the best player amongst both sides but others faltered. England stuck to its guns and made seaming pitches..

Foakes is a decent player of spin. He was scapegoated dropped after the series in West Indies, but his batting against spin has always been top-class.

Also, a rank turner gives Root the chance to emulate Michael Clarke's 6 for 9 :p:

As the inimitable Rob Moody (robelinda) put it:

Admittedly, one of the decisions might be overturned nowadays on DRS ...

It will be the same with more help for spinners. Can’t be changed in a few days. I just want this Idiot to bat first if we win toss and that’s a big IF as he might lose it again ! Also, can we play Rahul, Agarwal and Kuldeep in place of Sharma, Rahane and Nadeem. Might not happen. Lolhi might play Axar In place of Nadeem and that’s it.

Rank Turner coming. Breaking news

New Chepauk strip likely to offer turn from day 1

After one of the flattest decks on offer during the first Test in Chennai, task will be cut out for Tamil Nadu Cricket Association’s rookie curator V Ramesh Kumar and BCCI head of pitches and grounds committee head Taposh Chatterjee, to provide a track that doesn’t make toss so crucial.

While currently, there is grass cover on one of the adjacent strips, which could be used for the second match, it is a given that there will be fair share of turn. It will be interesting to see whether Ramesh and Chatterjee stop watering the track during the next three days.

If a dry pitch is baked adequately in sunshine, there could always be a case of pitch breaking early.

There is always this school of thought in Indian cricket circles as to why questions are raised about tracks that offer turn from the first day whereas in places like Christchurch in New Zealand, the 22-yard strip couldn’t be identified from the outfield.

I do remember India won the test (Australia were bowled out for ~ 95?). Ultimately I think it came down to the toss, with Australia having to bat last. But the point is, it took only a Michael Clarke to take advantage of those conditions. Which is a huge risk to take in the current scenario for India -- going down 2-0 would shut India out of WTC contention, even mathematically ...

But anyway, alea iacta est, and it seems rank turner is what we shall get.

Ideally a pitch should assist seam bowling on day 1-2 and spin bowling on day 4-5. But then that would afford very little home advantage, and give every visiting team a sniff, so it is unlikely we shall see such pitches very often :-( May be as a one-off for special events -- like a WTC final? ...

So, the flattest deck phrase applies only for days 1 and 2, no?  After that, it was dhool kalappufying (kicking up dust*).

* For non-Tamils: In Tamizh, dhool kalappufying also has a different meaning - like "doing great things." Like "Chaa gaye."  Does not apply here.
