@G_B_ What do you think the impact of this will be politically ? Seems like the opposition can be energised by this. The other view is India moves on quickly from these events. Things don’t stick and nobody is looking good in this situation.

Ls elections three years away...its a good time to have a pandemic if at all politically. More than enough time to recover.

Truth is congress is in no position to challenge bjp atm. Till the congress reforms internally it will continue to struggle in ls.

Bjp as usual will make the ls elections modi vs raga. All this talk of regional parties putting together a candidate will not work. Especially since mamata lost her own seat.

The paradox of a well-researched article is that it brings up so many uncertainties and data gaps; gaps which can be filled with whatever nonsense someone on WhatsApp can cook up.

Some of the best research on the 2008 financial crisis was from 2011 or 2012.

Articles were published in late 2009 and early 2010 which caught eyeballs and citations when journals wanted the flavour of the month, but were shallow in analysis.

I am afriad we simply need to wait for quality research to emerge.

https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/covid-variants-may-arise-in-people-with-compromised-immune-systems/

Last summer, as the second wave of COVID-19 cases was sweeping the United Kingdom, a man in his 70s was admitted to his local hospital where he tested positive for SARS-CoV-2. He was sent home, but a month later he checked into the hospital at Cambridge University, unable to shake the virus. Like many people who develop severe COVID-19, the man was immunocompromised. He had lymphoma and had previously received chemotherapy treatment.Doctors gave him remdesivir, an antiviral drug used to treat COVID-19, but he showed little improvement. Two months after his illness began, as the patient continued to worsen, his medical team opted to treat him with convalescent plasma, a therapy derived from the blood of patients who have recovered from COVID-19, which contains antibodies to fight off the virus.  Sadly, he succumbed to the virus 102 days after testing positive, but what doctors learned from him and similar patients “has been transformative of our understanding of what’s going on in this disease,” says Ravindra Gupta, a member of the Cambridge University medical team and senior author of a report of the man’s case published February 5 in Nature. Analysis of samples from the patient showed that the virus evolved rapidly after the plasma therapy, developing mutations that changed how it could infect cells and resist antibodies. The conditions turned out to be ripe for viral evolution. “This is a blueprint for how variants emerge,” Gupta says.

1,2,3,4,6,8=> Reasonable.

5,9 => Strawman arguments.

7 => Outright stupid and impractical.

All are stupid.
1. Why 1 is reasonable. For weeks , Opposition said give vaccine procurement to States. Centre gave it. Now they realised Vaccine is not sold in supermarkets.

2. We haven’t got enough vaccine for most vulnerable. How can we begin Universal program. What opposition  leaders are saying in reality that they don’t will not do anything and let centre manage everything

4. Spend means what, Just give it to some company CEO and then where will he manufacture. UP govmnts has agreed to put up covaxin plant with with 2 crore monthly capacity. Other needs to do their bit.

3. This is suicide and take away many future ventures for good. Bottom line is  Licensing did not put us in the soup we are in. Vaccines werent approved, people/govmnt/scientists believed covid is over. Now allready most world is giving waiver. So why do we need to show the world that we are forcefully snatching something when world has allready said to help yourself.

5. India hasn’t run out of cash. Vista project is rebuilding of infra. It creates jobs , keeps economy going. More building projects are needed. People calling it vanity, waste of money and so on are effectively doing what they do best. Fooling Indian people. Similar project in any country in West will be hailed as one way to keep economy going in these tough times.

6. Again, its not money. BJP is not going to give money as freebies. It has to be infra oor other projects and jobs.

I can go on with other points too but IMO , most points made by opposition is not thought out at all. They are suggetions for gallery

I came to know about another covid case today. Guy living in Toronto wanted to see his parents since he had not seen in an year. After reaching there he contracted COVID. He is in serious condition. Lung is fully infected.  His mother is like "I was having a peaceful life. Now i am not able to sleep a wink and pray 24 hours".  I am not sure why people go all the way from a much safe environment to an unsafe environment and in the process risk themselves  and others.

I dont think maharashtra handled it well at all.

It was just hit first and now is also out of the quagmire first. First it first out

This wave has just hit karnataka which will be one of the final places in india to get over the second wave. The west and north will exit the covid wave first.

Maharashtra is still not out of it. Still recording 40+ thousand cases.

Religious, political events among factors behind Covid-19 spike in India: WHO

“While India continues to account for 95% of cases and 93% of deaths in the South-East Asia Region, as well as 50% of global cases and 30% of global deaths, worrying trends have been observed in neighbouring countries,” it said

We won boys. Thank you BJP. You rock. :cheer:

All these things don't matter because there is vaccine shortage everywhere. Even if they order now, it will take a few months before they get them. And I can bet no state govt will get pfizer and Moderna, dollar 50 vaccines along with logistical problem. You are not seeing the reality, instead living in la la land.

J&J don't have the capacity to manufacture. They are looking to do that in India. For that, they are doing bridging trial. Same with Sputnik that will be manufactured by Reddy's in India. No country will give us vaccines at this point. They are procuring first for themselves like India have banned SII from sending vaccines to Astra Zeneca as that's company's liability.

There is not vaccine shortage everywhere. Especially not in the level that India has which happened basically because of the poor planning by the central government. What you said is a lie which is expected from bhaktakunjus like you.

As for the rest of your post it is basically worth not even reading it. Do me a favor and don't quote my posts hereafter.

Most of your posts you abuse the Central Govt and pardon the states. Agreed that most of the blame goes to them. but they tried to delegate some reponsibility to states back in Feb. States and peoplesat on their asses as well.  Your agenda is clear. If elections were stalled, there will be outcry of federalism and fascist governments. Law and Order for gatherings is also a state subject. Don't have a single track mind.

You're not even living in India.

You're safely living in US and I'm guessing already vaccinated while the Indians here like many of us are checking on a useless portal 24 hours a day waiting for vaccines. Don't patronize me.

I will point fingers on the central government as much as I want to and if you don't like it I don't give a rat's ass.

Even scheduled doses for parents aged 60 + are getting cancelled, just an SMS being sent with no accountability or alternative option given. How was the portal allowing the schedule if there was no vaccine or if they were available where did it disappear.

That is the great policy framed under central government. We're not supposed to question it.
