Well you appear to not believe the statistics coming out of mumbai...whats the point living there if you are blind to that?

In the first wave mumbai experienced excess deaths which even cities like Delhi Bangaluru and Chennai did not expirience. How has the BMC performed well?

Its the same in neighbouring places like Thane. So its not just a Mumbai thing.

stats already showing vast improvement

Already told u death n all above, BMC did well in 2nd wave not 1st .  Do a bit of reaserch ull know how BMC have done well...i hve posted it earlier  or do read wherever u can

lets wait for excess deaths of Mumbai and Delhi to come out.

We shall know who has done better. Both are urban cities of nearly similar population.

I do not believe the BMC has handled either wave well.

Only time will tell

We are counting covid parients but many suffering from ailments like cancer have had no support either. Thats as good as a death sentence. I have not lost any relatives to covid. Lost 1 aunt to cancer which was diagnosed too late as the hospitals were full.

We will know truth of the wave in 2022. India imo will have had 1.5 to 2million excess deaths between 2020 and 2022.

It won’t matter. How much of the excess deaths is due to COVID or non COVID disease or just hunger and poverty. It will also be offset by deaths from other factors. I wouldn’t wait for that number.

All I know is that it would take a lot of time for my city and country to get back it’s mojo. We are not like US or other western countries. Our lives are very intertwined. It’s the same for Indians abroad.

I think Delhi has crashed beyond recognition. In spite of the mess, Mumbai is definitely better off than Delhi. Especially considering the fact that it was epicentre.

My father contracted the virus end of Mar. To be honest, by that time this virus had completely spread. In fact the increase started end of feb and there were enough warning signs everyday. So, MVA and BMC messed up early on. Big time.

But having said that, I think there are challenges that Mumbai offers which is very unique especially on density. Think BMC infrastructure worked well to establish some structure. In my view, if Delhi’s free fall was for 2 weeks, for Mumbai it was maybe 7-8 days. At least in terms of oxygen and capacity.

In conclusion, at beginning I thought it was outright hopeless. But then it improved and then with situation in Delhi, it didn’t seem that bad.

Its exactly what my relatives told me. BMC was sleeping in Feb 2021 despite all the warning in mumbai. They said 2 weeks in mid march were hell. This is when they diverted patients to other nearly hospitals out of the city to reduce the load. These were satellite cities of Vapi, Surat Thane Nashik Pune and otherwise. I,e BMC simply exported its problems. I have relatives in Thane who tell me that the city suffered a higher than normal death toll in March cause the BMC was pushing patients into surrounding areas to be hospitalised.

One of the reasons why Nashik in particular is particular has a terrible second wave is cause its beds were blocked by mumbai patients who were directed to go there by the BMC in March. People were driving their relatives there from mumbai.

So lets see by how much the BMC has outperformed Delhi once the total toll emerges despite exporting its problems. Lets also see what the situation is in the satellite cities. These cities have poorer infra and had to deal with patients the BMC should have taken care off. My relative from Sion hospital (Dr Karnik) was explicitly told by political powers to direct ill patients to beds as far as Aurangabad in March.

its dependent on what output you want.

I,e how much litres of oxygen. Litres/min  You can get them off Amazon India. Good ones will be in the 50-75k range. So i worked under  Overseas India NGO in London.  Based on requirements we sent money to a member of the organisation who was in Mumbai, who when ordered it off Amazon to be delivered to the homes of the elderly. To be fair this was in early March.  Now its much harder.

You talking about “pinda daanum”? The government or practical norm should be let authorities handle cremation and last rites. We had to choose that for an uncle with no other option, it is not “normal” times. Sorry assuming somethings here.

yes. In the first wave as well India had lockdown for people flying in from US, UK. I know a person in US inspite of all political influence he couldn’t perform last rites at that time. He couldn’t even have the last visual of lost parent.

October or November. At this point astrologers and virologists have roughly the same success rate with predictions.

maybe we would have vaccinated 15% of the population by then

India is far away from getting closer to herd immunity. I expect more surprise and shock if they start claiming false victories once again.  So the messaging from the top has to be absolutely spot on. Optimism should be guarded. Here in US they have left the mask mandate to the shop owners. Honor system never works. Nobody knows who is vaxxed who is not. Given what is at stake ( our lives) being conservative or even pessimistic is not a bad thing.  Numbers are going down. It is still very high.  Large gatherings should be prohibited.

PM Modi’s rating falls as India reels from COVID-19 second wave

A survey among urban Indians by polling agency YouGov this month showed public confidence in the government's handling of the crisis has plummeted since February when the second wave began.

Only 59% of respondents at the end of April believed the government was handling the crisis 'very' or 'somewhat' well, down from 89% a year earlier during the first wave, it showed.

They should loose some elections and understand humility. Just because opposition is bad doesnt give them free pass.

They have already lost many elections but BJP remains the best bet.I shudder to think what would happen if Kejretard,Mamata, Akhilesh,Stalin or Rahul come to power.

That’s the sad part. It reminds of gujaral and deve gowda as PM. That idiot gujaral even gave up RAW agents to Pakistan. The main  opposition is so bad. They can’t win more than 70. But BJP should understand priorities and how to deal with it. The leadership was clearly missing.

Jamia professor, who put out Twitter request looking for a bed for herself, dies of Covid

According to colleagues and friends, Dr Nabila Sadiq, a PhD scholar from JNU, was teaching and helping students with their thesis until April 20.

The number of 30 - 40 year olds dying is shocking
