Vilander Posted May 8, 2021 Posted May 8, 2021 (edited) Anti-COVID-19 drug gets DCGI nod for emergency use; can help moderate to severe patients The drug selectively accumulates on infected cells, preventing virus growth by stopping viral synthesis and energy production. I know DCGI is handing out emergency drug use approvals like candies these days, but this is great news. Please discuss. Edited May 8, 2021 by Vilander mishra, velu and beetle 1 2

Vilander Posted May 8, 2021 Author Posted May 8, 2021 Earlier in April 2020, during the first wave of pandemic INMAS-DRDO scientists conducted laboratory experiments with the help of Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB), Hyderabad and found that this molecule works effectively against SARS-CoV-2 virus and inhibits viral growth. Based on these results, DCGI- CDSCO permitted Phase-II clinical trial of 2-DG in COVID-19 patients in May 2020. Later, the DCGI further permitted the Phase-III clinical trials in November 2020. The Phase-III clinical trial was conducted on 220 patients during Dec 2020 to March 2021 at 27 COVID hospitals situated in states of Delhi, UP, West Bengal, Gujrat, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. The detailed data of phase-III clinical trial was presented to DCGI. https://www.freepressjournal.in/india/drdos-anti-covid-19-drug-gets-dcgi-nod-for-emergency-use-can-help-moderate-to-severe-patients
ash Posted May 9, 2021 Posted May 9, 2021 We need to see the phase 3 results. Hope they publish it soon. But please don't market this as a miracle cure. It might aid the recovery process, but nothing is 100 effective against Covid, not even the vaccines. Clarke and ravishingravi 2
ravishingravi Posted May 9, 2021 Posted May 9, 2021 India’s pharma industry will get a big boost if we can get through this phase and keep ourselves relatively protected for third wave. Vaccines plus generics like these. It will be a pharma boom.
mishra Posted May 9, 2021 Posted May 9, 2021 I dont care, I just want to mopve away from vaccine to pill based solution on covid. I do not want to be going into lockdown nxt time vaccination happens. nevada 1

They need to combine it with other therapeutics apparently in increases instances of quick recovery out of need for oxygen support in appreciably higher cases.. Hope it works. beetle 1
Khota Posted May 10, 2021 Posted May 10, 2021 For some reasons I am not feeling confident about this.

So effectively, reduces growth of virus. Study needed on its impact on covid patients. I recall Boris Johnson saying that UK is looking to manufacture a pill as well. That too by end of this year Edited May 10, 2021 by mishra
