Your dream retirement home/age/location ?

Once I'm finished with my current work, I'm going to move to the outback and become an aeromedical pilot. Fly medical care supplies to remote and impoverished communities.

 

These people are angels in my book.

 

I was inspired by them to take up flying lessons and become a pilot.

Not yet. It's a good idea though. We had started building it just 3 months before pandemic hit the country and lockdown. Still lot of work left but we had started working in October last year with whatever we had built. Rest we will keep doing slowly. Pandemic has hurt but we were doing decent work before this second wave again disrupted everything badly.

Abottabad is a valley surrounded by hills on all sides Neighbouring POK. It's More poor man's Kashmir valley.

It is not so bad now. Roads are usually good or getting repaired ( tough to maintain ). There are enough petrol pumps but one had to keep a track of where the next one is. Medical facility is a big problem unless one is close to a city. But the air is so fresh, it adds a few good years to ones life. 

The trick is to move there when one is fit and ready to enjoy nature. Not when one gets old and have a few medical conditions already . Life is definetely tougher .

 

Best is to have two living places. One small one in the hills that is easy to maintain,and another closer to a city . Enjoy the nature and keep your appointments with the doctors too.

The real problem with all these places is there are tons and tons of insects around.

 

In the evenings if you were to switch on the lights, a gazillion moths/I don't know what would swarm around it. Can't really read a book under the light if every two minutes an insect keeps falling on your shoulder.

 

There are also other issues like frogs in the garden and lizards. Ewwwww.

Piddi ka shorba in real life,  if you aren't careful.

 

This kind of stuff looks good on post cards or at best for a few days. Mainly during the day.

 

Not as a retirement home.

Some years back I was in Ladakh in the last week of September. At a place called Ulatecpo on the banks of the Indus where you do all those water sports. Somewhere between Lamayuru and Leh. We were staying in tents for the experience and all that. There was a wasp/idk what thing which entered my tent. It made this huge buzzing drone sound and refused to go out when shooed away. That was a lot scarier for me than white water rafting. 

 

This only rain/summer thing isn't true. And rain summers are half the year. You want the main light on the porch of your dream home to be Insect sammelan area for half the year?

These things mainly happen during July to September rainy months and I don't think if you have a proper home, it will be a problem. 

 

But yes you are right about insects on lights outside but that happens in most suburbs during rainy months.

I'm already living in my retirement home and very happy with what and where it is and how greatful life and God has been to me. Retirement home is least of my worries. The biggest concern is having to leave this world in some years and miss dear (family and other nice connections I have)  ones forever. 

 

More in search of those moments where I can be helpful to others as much as possible in remaining few years of life.

 

Kya pata kab maut ka paigam aa jaye Zindgi ki kab aakhiri sham ho jaye Main to dhoondta hoon aise mauke ko ae dost Ki meri zindgi bhi kisi ke kaam aa jaye…

 

This is precisely my situation at the moment.

Almost ZERO snakes, lizards, frogs, flies, insects ....

 

Beautiful lakes, absolutely clean beaches ...

Smell of fish and sea weed  is repulsive . I have lived in a boat home for a week, not much to do other than look at same scene everyday. Comparatively, walking about in nature gives more freedom
