To know more look at this namoona

https://indianexpress.com/article/india/dharmendra-pradhan-petrol-diesel-prices-welfare-schemes-7357174/

So in essence, for these imbeciles, it is OK to give a middle finger to tax payer. The idiot does not even talk of  productive aspects like health/education infrastructure, Research, hiring more police

Tax payer has to pay astronomical tax and only to see it plowed into rural areas for freebies.

I was a fool to consider Modi as a reformer. He is that same old Tax and distribute politician with a Saffron card.

I read the article, and it makes sense to me not reduce the tax on petrol/diesel in such dire times and distribute it to poor people. This epidemic has been once a century event and hardship faced by poors of India has been worst. In any other times, I would've dissed the leaders for this move, but I'd go heavy on socialism in these times.

Liberal as I am, I have to agree with him. You do need money for welfare scheme and in India tax on petrol is progressive. I agree with the minister.

At this point an injection of cash into society is unavoidable. The blue-collar industries have been hit very hard by the pandemic. Ppl need help to survive!

India requires social welfare schemes - it has to be earned from somewhere.

It would be good if there were more taxpayers in the country though. So many high earning professionals get a free ride by using tax loopholes!

What tax payer?

India has a gdp to tax ratio is 10% which is low even by the standard of some african nations

Taxes need to drastically rise

Indian middleclass has no idea how rest of world fleeces middleclass.

Anyhow some social security scheme is indeed needed, but rightnow, Indian peoples mentality is still to find work. So infra development and reforms in agriculture and industrialisation of rural areas are must.

The petrol/diesel costs are indirect anyways. Not taxes that one can evade easily.

And they are cumulative and they percolate to the net consumer.

Why increase taxes? The motto of the tax regime should be " stern in assesment, lenient In collection".

Right now our assesment is very poor and evasion *comparatively* simple.

Compared to other emerging markets with a growing service sector.

It is the unorganised business class that deals on cash , that get away not paying taxes. I know of many friends and family in India that do. Salaried gets taxed everywhere. Hence, gst revenue was important to tax the unorganized business sector, facking rich cash people. They are the ones complaining about having to pay rs. 250 for a vaccine.

The end result is well known.

5 out of my 6 cousins have immigrated to Kandeda and amreeka. They have vowed never to return.

But in developed world, they get something in return. Isn't it?

I am all for more focus on direct taxes.

The problem is india has too many self employed people who simply dont want to pay taxes.

Personally i would double cost of petrol. Its something which india imports and will act as an incentive towarda electric adoption.

They come up with strawman arguments.

They should never pay. Xyz should pay.

Tax collection will be proportionate to per capita income. Percent of people paying income tax is low because people earning are low in numbers too and population is high so percentage will always seem low.  How many people earn more than 5 lacs per year in India? Our taxable income base is also low.
