Ben Stokes debuted in 2013

 

5 years after his debut he had multiple 5frs and 100s in tests and ODis.

 

Had a 100 in Ind,Aus and SA.

 

Chris Woakes is the 3rd choice  bowler for England behind Anderson/Broad. Has test 100’s and played some amazing cameos in LOIs with the bat.

 

Pandya plays 2/3 formats out of which he doesn’t bowl in them half the time due to

injury.

 

About time we need to understand if he is an all format player like Stokes and Woakes or is he a LOI specialist. Now in T20 it’s a no brainer that  he should be in the side for his batting and fielding even if he doesn’t bowl. 
 

In ODis if he doesn’t bowl he is a lottery not because of lack of batting talent but he comes in at 6-7 where it will be hit or miss due to the situations. So basically we are playing a player for hitting some 6’s who can’t bowl. That messes up the team combo. Tests lesser said the better. He should have been our no.4 in ODIs and his bowling treated like a huge bonus.

 

I still don’t get it. It’s been 5 years. If he has been unavailable for crucial series then not sure if he ever will be.

Not this again. Jadeja is a proven game changer in tests.

Jadeja and Washington Sundar are better test batsmen than Pandya. Moreover, they both can bowl, whereas Pandya has barely bowled few overs in last one or two years. India has better multi skilled test players than Pandya in Jadeja and Sundar.

Absolutely. From being a potentially very good all-rounder Pandya is now effectively a luxury player.

 

Its the point I made earlier that if he can't play on away tours to Eng and Aus, where his skills have most chance of succeeding, then what is the point. If he is never going to bowl then cut your losses, move on and try out other players. 

 

Coming to another tour to Eng without any seaming all-rounders is just shooting yourself in the foot. Future planning or strategy under KOH-SHAT simply does not exist.

Check Hardik in Eng in southampton where we lost by 60 runs and was dropped for the Oval test

Many of you are not understanding the issue. I’m effing don’t be over Spinner Batsman Allrounders. So can we just not discuss Jaddu, Ash etc here? What’s the BIG idea of playing spinner Allrounders in SENA. Countries where your main pace bowlers suck and you can’t bring Jaddu/Ash to bowl because the ball is seaming/seaming. You need so body to rattle the batsmen by some short pitch bowling or just have a seaming variety?

You play Ash, Jadeja, Axar, etc. in SENA because they do well in Ind ... Next Ind will play with 3 spinners in SENA

Then we would have had shardul bhuvi shami bumrah ashwin. So literally bhuvi plus shardul would be at least ok to hold bat akin to a full jadeja. Also give more overs and better chances of picking wickets..literally this happened in brisbane where we had sundar instead of bhuvi.

let us play nadeem or even better jalaj saxena. all spin attack. and nadeem can bat a bit, whereas jalaj is a middle order batter in domestics.
