Where is Hardik Pandya?

Why he was not in the test team? He can’t be resting injured as he recently played IPL.

 

HaPa was needed as 4th pace bowler and a useful bat in place of Jaddu.

 

There should be a good explanation of him not being in this test team. I’m listening…

The TM has been 'managing' his workload as part of some masterplan. When he should have asked to play Mushtaq Ali and VH Trophies back home, he was warming the bench in Australia.

 

If after nearly 10 months of competing cricket starting from last IPL, he is not yet fully fit to bowl, don't think he is going to be fit to bowl in Tests anytime in near future.

concern with both is their fitness, extremely unreliable at this stage. In a 5 day game , any team will be careful playing them

yeah they should have been managed with focus on Eng tour.

 

specially Bhuvi has been very unfit

 

Hardik has all the abs and muscles but is not fit to bowl

I think he does not want to bowl. He knows he is injury prone and therefore asked TM to be played as a batsman only. Hence, no tests for him. He wants to prolong his career in ODI's, T20's and IPL without rolling his arm over.

Looking at the responses above, we need Test level reliable pace bowling allrounder. Shardul Thakur?

 

Any other potential from domestic cricket? 
Need to go strappy, we’ll built, good height , decent pace and a good hitter. Jamieson type. Do we have any? Tyagi?

Thakur/Vijay  Shankar fits the bill in Tests. 
Thakur is short, stocky and plays good cricketing shots. VS is a classic trundler/batsman like CDGrandmom without the mullet. Both should be tried over Kadeja in Eng. But we have to first fix the batting, top order and middle order. Pujara and Rajane are a huge liability. Rahane s captain, Pujara likely to be the fall guy to fix batting woes

Indian batting is at a stage where you need young talents. Not sure SHASH-KOH ready for that. 
Im not sure about Vijay Shankar. He sort of fizzled out in whatever chances he got.

 

Thakur is our best bet ATM.

Isn't the whole point of an all rounder like Pandya to be able to play on tours to Eng & Aus?

 

That's where you will get the most value of a seaming all rounder. If as seems likely he's never going to bow again l in Tests then FFS move on and identify other all rounders.

In the last 8 tests in Eng & NZ since 2018, Ind has won only 1 test and that too courtesy of SDP!
