IOC gets more power to remove sports from Olympics; Weightlifting and Boxing under review

Not a huge blow as it will realistically only change 2-3 medal hopes. Really bad for the Central Asian countries and perhaps a few Central American countries like Cuba.

China won't allow weightlifting to be removed. They dominate there. They are too powerful for the IOC to go against.

Boxing has been under review for a while. It could go. I don't think the central Asian countries and others like Cuba will be able to do much. USA and the other European powerhouses won't care too much.

Valid reasons to remove them. Weightlifting has been marred by frequent doping controversies, boxing scoring is dubious to say the least. These must be addressed.

But then IOC may look to bring in more joke disciplines like breakdancing (remember curling in the other Olympics?) or 15 more unnecessary pool races.

Yup swimming judo canoe definitely need atleast 50 more medals and  breakdancing is surely a more popular sport than kabbadi, it's important for advancement and democratic principles of olympic games. Great decision from ioc if that happens for sure.

There is a woke political push as Boxing is promoting toxic masculinity despite having women in the sport. It leads to primal behavior  of humans

One Winner and rest losers promote inferiority complex among humans. Declare everyone a gold medalist or ban Olympics. :protest:

IOC needs to look into trannies competing in women's sports. did that NZ tranny win the gold. Absolute mockery of world sports :facepalm:boxing and weightlifting is the last of their worries.

No, in fact he/she lost in the first round or qualifications in fact. Had one of the lowest scores.

But, I agree, instead can have separate events for transgenders. It would be more fair that way.

Canada’s Quinn Becomes First Trans Athlete to Win Gold Medal at Olympics

Team LGBTQ' earns 32 medals at Tokyo Olympics

“At least 55 of those athletes, who competed in 35 different sports, won medals — five nabbed gold for Team USA women’s basketball alone. In fact, if the LGBTQ Olympians competed as their own country — affectionately labeled "Team LGBTQ" by Outsports — they would rank 11th in the total medal count (right behind France and before Canada), with 32 team and individual medals: 11 gold, 12 silver and 9 bronze”

Only trans should be an issue, not others.

Boxing has been through a lot of changes. They tried out a sensor based system that were supposed to record punches but that failed. The scoring in boxing has always been very dicey. They increased the number of judges from 3 to 5 - but somehow this has always been very controversial. Almost every Olympics there are multiple controversies. London esp was terrible. Rio and Tokyo were relatively tame.

we know why usa won the medals tally. its not just usa. other teams are doing it too. it makes the olympics look like a joke. they should look into this first before removing sports
