He was bowling in the early 120's in SL. Even in English conditions, you need to be 130 + at least to have a chance.

Virat is insecure about Ashwin's presence, this is costing the team. He prefers the company of someone that's dumb/happy go lucky...like Pant, makes Kohli look smart.

 

It was forecast well in advance that we will have 5 dry days at Lord's. Also it was visible in recent county games that Lords is taking spin. Ashwin has a good batting record against England + he took a 5 for against the top county side recently. 

 

It's what Virat attempted against Rohit as well. He's from Delhi, so thick skulled. Oblivious to the fact that if Ashwin succeeds, so does the team and the captain. Kohlis ego is getting the better of him.

Yes, Ashwin has improved drastically on how to get wickets even in pitches with no spin. Lathams wicket in WTC final 1st innings is an example. 

 

But with Jadeja locking his spot and shardul back for the 3rd test, I don't think Ashwin will be back in the next test.

Nobody complained about his absence in the first test. It was understandable given the conditions. But this pitch was bone dry from the outset. Not much grass.  It is even more perplexing given that Thakur was not available which effectively made our tail longer. Given the form three batsmen in the middle we are down to 4 batsmen.  He made the mistake of not playing Siraj/Thakur in the final. Last test he got it right. Again back to same old crap.

Mate, Lord's is the worst pitch for spinners in England PERIOD. For a change, TM has been spot on regarding playing XI for this and last test. Ashwin will be useful in the next 3. Hope he gets picked.

Lord's has always been flat and dry except for that one test they tampered vs us in 2014. Does nothing for spinners.

Didn't yasir shaha take a 10fer there? Moeen Ali averages 33 with 25 wickets.  Swann averages 25.  This is last 10 years record.  Ashwin unlike any other spinner has the ability to use different variations. Besides this English side has a lot of scars against Ashwin who owned them left right center not long ago.

A statement that's true in *general* is not going to be of any help when discussing *specific* bowlers, especially the best spinner going around.

Ashwin is not comparable to Mcgrath, he definitely is the best spinner in the world but still he can't take the pitch out of the equation, he has never done that. 

He should play at Oval.

Shoud check McGrath's record in Pakistan. I believe it's bad.
