The World Cup fever is now on officially as teams have started naming their squad.

 

NZ Squad with probable XI

Milne ( Injury Cover, 16th man)

 

The kiwis has a balanced first XI with 3 allrounders in the middle and 6 bowling option including couple of decent spinners and variety in bowling.
The only weakness can be of lack of powerhitters in the middle on UAE pitches. But the core of the batting is solid with Guptill, Williamson and a red hot Conway.

Aussies seems weakest in their group due to the curse of seniority culture. A trio of over the hill Warner, Finch ad Smith is recipe of disaster.
The top 3 messes the balance of the first XI also as they pushes Wade in middle order and with Maxwell unstoppable, only one of stonis and Marsh can play.
The bowling seems strong though.

Wade is super flop in middle order and the only place he is useful is top of the order where Warner and Finch is undroppable.

But the only other keeper is Iglis who Aus have picked up as a backup to Wade so a middle order place will be wasted on Wade and one of Marsh or Stonis will be dropped.

Good to see Inglis picked ahead of out of form Carey & fraud Phillipee who is a strokeless wonder outside BBL. 

These frauds should not be allowed to make easy bucks in IPl. 

I'll take Kusal Perera & Liton Das over them any day of the week.

There are too many exciting talents around. It's hard to squeeze in both Rohit and Kohli since they both bat at a slightly lower tempo. Having KLR, who also anchors the team, would make for a slightly weak top 3 in terms of scoring fast. Rest of team looks good, although I don't know if Siraj is the right fit for T20s even with his fantastic test performances. I think Shaw (maybe Samson) and Avesh Khan should be in the mix.

nuff of Samson I think.  He looks mentally weak & very weak against wrist spin.  Struggled in Australia against Zampa Swepson & then was bullied in Sri lanka by Hasaranga. 

Shaw perhaps yes..  He will definately make into the squad or as a back up player. 

 

We do need good mixture of youth & experience.  I believe only Rohit Kohli Bumrah should be the main experienced fellows in the team rest of the XI should be  selected on merit.

 

Siraj is a wonderful bowler.  He was outstanding in IPl very hard to hit against..  And with the new ball he is as good as anyone.  Much better than Bhuvi/Shami.

Main squad of 15:

Batsmen: Rohit, Dhawan, Kohli, SKY, 

Keeper-batsman: Pant, Rahul

All rounders: Hardik, Jadeja, Shardul, Sundar

Spinners: Chahal

Pacers: Bhuvi, Chahar, Bumrah, Shami

 

Reserves: Iyer, Kishan and Krunal

I think we will have 3 spinners  and 3 all rounders in the 15 member squad and most probably Shardul will take 3rd all rounder place unless he does poorly in IPL.

Second pure spinner would be a toss up between R. Chahar & Varun C based on IPL performance.

Given the fact that Kohli and Rohit will be in the squad irrespective of their current ability and form ... my playing 11 and squad based on current informstion are ( may change after IPL finishes )  ....

2. Shaw ... One dashing opener needed

3. Kohli ( c )

5. Pant ( wk )

6. Hardik ... Batting all-rounder 

7. Jadeja ... Batting cum bowling all-rounder

Good looking team! I would drop Hardik and take Kishan in his place. And Sundar instead of Jaddu.

Agree with most of your thoughts. I think HItman's seniority means he will start the tournament.

I think KL will make way for the first batsman that performs poorly in two matches in a row bar Kohli of course. I think Kishan, SKY, Hardik will feel the early heat to perform well.

 

I like Kishan at the top for the LEFT and RIGHT combination and also we have Jaddu and Pant as lefties to continue that trend down the order.

Sundar is a must for his powerplay bowling. He can't slog but its okay, at 8, he wont be batting much anyway

 

Rahul chahar is nothing special as a bowler despite being a leggie
