Im worried about Pant now

I am least concerned about Pant right now, my main concern is Pujara and Rahane will get selected for another series after one half century in this test. I want our batters to score runs before telling our bowlers to do the job all the time. Its high time Kohli, Pujara, Rahane stoop up to the challenge or leave the game before being kicked away from the team.

Spot on.Kohli should learn what captain is supposed to do when facing tough challenge from Elgar. Elgar is saying over my dead body. That is the attitude you need from a captain.

Forgettable match for him. Dropped chance. Reckless shot. Risky counter attack innings can be rewarding when it comes off. But when it doesn't come off  you look like a fool. This is Test cricket. You have all the time in the world.

the run of matches where he has contributed little with the bat is now getting longer.

That is just fine but the way he got out is not fine.He was scared of getting hit.

I don't think it was being scared; seemed more like arrogance to me - as in, I'm going to smash this trundler type of attitude.

RVD rattled him with that sledge about the catch.

I find it hard to believe that he was not sledged in Oz, where he did fine enough. What I'm seeing is the good 'ol Indian trait of complacency. Do great in a few tests, and get a long run: this is the fundamental principle that Trimurti are operating on for the last 24 months in Tests

this was different though. RVD basically called him a cheat.I heard Pant reply and he looked rattled.

I missed that part (about exact nature of sledge). thanks for clarifying. looks like teams have found another chink in pant's armor: call him cheater.

I don't think it was arrogance at all. He turned into Afridi who admitted himself , he does not have confidence in his ability .Rabada is not trundler by any means.

Interesting: I didn't know that Afridi admitted he lacked confidence.

That horrendous shot aside, Pant scored a decent 30+ in the 3rd innings of the first test helping us to set up a winning total. Pujara and Rahane have done nothing except play for themselves. If you are a specialist bat, you have to take the game away from the opposition with a big score. Neither can do it anymore and it's time to move on from them. Dravid has been a big disappointment with his undying support for these two even before the series began.

If pant fails in 3rd test, he should be dropped.  He has got enough of a long rope.    Bharat should be given a chance.

Some people selected him in their all time Indian test 11 , ahead of Dhoni, Kirmani, Engineer and many greats , poor selection. Pant is young and talented, but overrated. Has played some match winning knocks but this one was definitely a match losing knock.

Dravid is turning out to be a really poor coach. Announcing this in public can a hurt a player's confidence. These things should be kept to dressing room. On other side, he is silent on #Purane not performing.

Both rahane and puji scored 50 each last inning.  Though ,as a specialist batsmen they are supposed to score much more.    But can't fault dravid entirely here.  He is not criticizing pant's attitude.  He is specifically talking about his choice of shot which was unthinkable at that stage.
