I feel that selectors have gone for specialists, which is a consistent pattern with Indian selections even for T20.  But in T20, more often than not, its a batting shootout, and having a guy at #7 who can put up a 30 ball 50, or can come in and give you that cameo of 25 from 12, has value.  

 

Axar can slog it a bit, on his day, but not reliably.  

 

Yards the better bowler, no doubt, but I'd even go as far as saying that in t20 cricket, I rate Krunal the batsman bit better than even Jadeja.  This is not to say I am a Krunal fan - he's a quintessential bits and pieces player, just about barely adequate with either skillset, but in T20 such players often end up making crucial contributions over the course of a WC.  

Krunal has good temperament and a competitor. People may make fun of him but he isn't a bad T20 cricketer

One of Deepak Chahar or Thakur should have been there. I am not sure if Shami is a better T20 option than either of them, particularly when we consider that Chahar and Thakur can score some handy runs at a decent SR.

 

Other than that not much to complain. Clearly the team has punted on spinners more given its in UAE. Thats infact more of a reason to play Thakur ahead of Shami in those sluggish pitches.

It's a very poor job by selectors in terms of spin options. 5 spinners what the duck! Selectors have ducked the responsibility of selecting the spinners on TM. Selecting too many spinners is useless. In the end, you will play 2-3 and it's not a long tournament, so you will have to stick with these 2-3 spinners. 5 is 2 too many. Could have kept in the reserves. Shardul right now seems to be a better option at 7 than jaddu.

Its important that we have a core of Ishan, SKy, Pant and Hardik from 3-6. No point in playing all three of KL, Kohli and Rohit. Infact given the form, Kohli could have been that non-playing mentor instead of Dhoni.

Rohit and Kohli are not going to set anything on fire. Tuk Tuk players.Also, Shardul should have been there. He has this habit of taking out gun players. Siraj bowled brilliantly in IPL. Have they forgotten the over that he bowled to Russel who had no clues. Shami will be tonked.

Surya & Pant will take care of him...  If he bowls in the PP which he likely will as he did in WI..  We got KLR & Rohit who are decent against finger spin.
