Did Hardik Pandya deserve to get picked in T20 world cup side?

If 150-160 is going to be a good total, these guys could bat in a way where Ind is close to 100-110 in 16-17 overs, needing to score 40-50 runs in the last 3-4 overs on a pitch getting difficult to bat. In such conditions, best scenario where these guys’ batting could be useful is chasing a 130 odd.

Recently, in LOIs:

• Highest scorer for Ind in Aus in ODI series. Avg 100+ (next best avg was 58)
• MoS in Aus in T20s 
• Incredible performances in IPL, helping MI win two back to back titles in 2019 and 2020

 

All these despite being out due to injury, missing out on some of his best form and having to start again ...

Yes. He's very important and pretty much our best finisher/hitter.

 

His form and bowling is extremely important for the balance of our squad

Think Pandya of 2016-2018 was out of the world cricketer. He had all the potential to become one of the very best all rounders from India.

 

But he was never the same player since the injury in Asia cup 2018. Also the fact that he started considering himself from the dark side didnt helped his cause either. 

 

Right now he is a confused cricketer.

Aus, which is a top sporting country with a great sports culture, would probably not even have such discussions. For e.g. likely to play SDP (Hardik) in test too, let alone considering him leaving him out from his stronger formats:

But Pandya himself dont want to play test cricket no?

 

After good showing in the white ball series in Australia, he was asked to stay back for Test matches considering Virat was going back after Adelaide test. But Pandya declined the offer saying he has not yet met his child.

SDP was told by the management that he would need to bowl to be considered (google it. I think mentioned this to you earlier too ). When he knows that he would be not playing tests, he can't speak against those decisions.

Nothing against Hardik but I dont like the concept of allrounders. It never works out.

At this level no one can develope an allrounder. No one. Cricket is a highly specialized sport though it is not competitive.

stokes is the closest imo but thats because he is a phenomenal athlete. his bowling in odi is subpar. his batting is terrific in all formats. his bowling for tests in swinging or bouncy wickets is reasonably good actually. averaging 32 ish is quite good for a second change bowler. 

 

imo you can have all rounders but they have to be top notch athletes to make the cut. Cream of the crop sort of athlete.

In gully cricke yes. At top level no. As a pace bowler developing batting skills is impossible. That will lead to body breakdown and that is exactly what happened to pandya and Ben.

What about those past greats? Kapil imran Botham etc?

Three out of 5 most valuable players are all-rounders. So, they do work.
