maniac Posted November 1, 2021 Posted November 1, 2021 There are no captaincy options outside of Rohit and Kohli. Making Rohit the captain might be logical choice but the whole issues with Kohli might be a baggage. We have 2 tournaments, WT20 and WC and Rohit will be short term option anyways because of the age factor. However all these politics and MI lobby crap might weigh him down. Pant, Rahul are not ready. Rest are not even sure of their places. Rahane has inspired a broken down and injured team to a historic win in Australia. He can be a floater like Smith or Morgan and play when there is a collapse but I think he has the respect of the team mates. I have seen him speak about cricket and I am impressed with his cricket acumen. Dravid coach and Rahane captain and give them a young fearless team and we will see results. Rahane is a fighter. This may sound like a ridiculous idea but this is not what we want but what we need. Make Rahane the captain and save Indian cricket from these politics and petty squabbles. Texy, Vilander, Norman and 2 others 4 1
rangeelaraja Posted November 1, 2021 Posted November 1, 2021 A true out of box decision would be to make Hardik Pandya the t20 captain. Karke aayega woh. Vilander, nevada, anish2tweet and 1 other 1 2 1

Pandya is not captaincy material but appearances can be deceptive. No one imagined 5 liter milk consuming, John Abraham wannabe Dhoni would become “Thala”. Having said that his slot is not confirmed and he has himself to blame. Rahane has been an inspiring captain and right now we all can use some inspiration.
zen Posted November 1, 2021 Posted November 1, 2021 There is only one real captain in this format -> SDP Rest is just an exercise in trying to hold on to old school thinking and delay things to the point where there is no other option (an Indian trait so good to bet against general Indian sentiments)
kirkutfan Posted November 1, 2021 Posted November 1, 2021 Just bring Dhawan back. Better t20 player than Rahane. Good kabaddi gestures. He will keep it light on the field. And tactics wise, he could do what Morgan does. Look at the color coded signs of the video analyst..

Has SDP captained even at school cricket? I am going easy because I am the guy suggesting Rahane but ridiculous to make pandya captain lol Cricspin 1

He played for India regularly before his injury. May not be bowling fit but plays regularly in this format and getting better with each passing game. No body appoints a captain for today. It is for the next few years and with the type of cricket the team will play. Come Aus, the ball would be flying off batsmen’s bat and SDP would be among the heroes!

He made lemonade out of lemons in Australia. One of the most inspirational captaincies in history of cricket but doesn’t have enough PR. As shrewd as Rohit. Works well with both Virat and Rohit, gun fielder and team player.

coffee_rules Posted November 1, 2021 Posted November 1, 2021 Rahane captain is not “Out of the box thinking”. It is “Without a box thinking”!

I was referring to injury to SDP related perceptions. As for Rahane, top IPL teams will not even pick him, let alone make him a captain. Who is going to make him Ind’s captain? maniac Posted November 1, 2021 Author Posted November 1, 2021 T20 WCs have been won by either good players in other formats who are average in T20- Dhoni,Younis Khan,Sangakkara or mediocre players- Collingwood,Sammy So there is that

zen Posted November 1, 2021 Posted November 1, 2021 Time for Kohli, Rohit, Rahane, Dhawan, etc, is now gone. Probably at the 2019 ODI WC. Ind fans need to learn to move on rather than imagining ways to make them relevant. Many of these guys have been playing cricket since 2007-8 (Rohit & Kohli). 2020s is for SDP, Pant, etc., and it’s time to back these players who would go on to become Ind’s key players this decade. Cricket is like rally race where the baton is passed on. In 2000s, you had a set of famous players, who passed the baton on to Kohli & company, who now needs to pass it on to SDP & company. SDP & company would pass then it on to team 2030s. IndianRenegade 1
goose Posted November 1, 2021 Posted November 1, 2021 Rahane has sigma male qualities. I'm not sure he's our man but that's the type i agree. the age of the alpha male is over.

Vivek92 Posted November 1, 2021 Posted November 1, 2021 There is an overall lack of long term strategic thinking from BCCI. Fair play to Dhoni, when the left the captiency, Kohli was trained by him to a certain extend and Kohli able to take on the additional responsibility. Hypocrite and power hungry Kohli has not trained anyone to take over the mantel from him.

Some out of nowhere including a test in Eng or that last over v BD. Stood up when others have failed including 2017 CT final and ODI series in Aus. Single handedly helped MI win the title in 2019, competing with a peak Russell (all these without even attempting to worry about padding stats, the culture Ind should develop). Tries to give his best, communicates well, and maintains good relations. Edited November 1, 2021 by zen
