helperononline Posted November 3, 2021 Posted November 3, 2021 (edited) Today's match he has bowled beautifully in a flat pitch against a subcontinent team What is the reason behind keeping him out ? Is he not fitting to kohli fitness criteria ? Is he having problems with kohli ? Is he gone too old to be kept in team ? Edited November 3, 2021 by helperononline .
Jamadagni Posted November 3, 2021 Posted November 3, 2021 (edited) There you go. These are the same guys who were pissed off with Ashwin in the IPL with his performances and wanted Varun in the XI....2 matches it all took.....ICF "experts" in a nutshell.... Actually only a handful behaved like that. Many defended him in that last over. Took 2 wickets. He cannot possibly defend 7 runs in last over.
sensible-indian Posted November 3, 2021 Posted November 3, 2021 (edited) I dont get it. He looked like a phattu in IPL. But looked soo good today. Looked like picking up wickets. Had they slogged he would have got a few more. What really changed. Is it just Afghanistan factor? I saw bite in his bowling that was missing in IPL. Edited November 3, 2021 by sensible-indian Vijy 1

HE doesn't bowl seriously. He does this in TNPL as well.
Texy Posted November 3, 2021 Posted November 3, 2021 (edited) when asked in post match what was most pleasing for you in this game. Rat: Ashwin's return... which begs the Q why keep him out for so long? Edited November 3, 2021 by Texy

He was probably Kohli's 4th choice among the 5 spinners available. I am shocked he even picked Ashwin for this match. There is some under current. Any unbiased captain would have recognized Ashwin is at his very best. Even in the warm up, Rohit was the one who captained match where Ashwin had a double strike inside powerplay. In the TC final Ashwin was the only one that looked like taking wickets. He doesn't have to prove anything in IPL anymore. Even this season his ER was not bad. He wet only on 7.41
figo6762 Posted November 3, 2021 Posted November 3, 2021 Ash should have been tried … hindsight 20/20
aditya19 Posted November 3, 2021 Posted November 3, 2021 Yet another example of not picking players in form..ashwin looked good in warmups and should have been preferred over vc.
zen Posted November 3, 2021 Posted November 3, 2021 A cushion of 200+ runs helps Lord and Under_Score 2

afan Posted November 4, 2021 Posted November 4, 2021 It all started when CSK did not bid him beyond 4Cr or so, since they had Bhajji , Jadeja , Tahir , Karn Sharma in their ranks The Pune stint did not go well as well, and M Ashwin was preffered over him there. His fall also coincided with the rise of Sundar and they thought he was a long term replacement To top it, Ashwin had a bad CL-17 and his slide was complete when the Kulchas could not be dislodged. VK firmly believed that Finger spinners were not as effective as wrists. It has a been a long story since then. Had Ashwin continued in CSK, the script may have been different. It is not fair blame anyone in particular, but we can all learn from our past mistakes. Hopefully, with Dravids return, we will see more of Ashwin in times to come! I am also glad, that he was not played in the first 2 games...Else it would have been curtains for R Ashwin!

jf1gp_1 Posted November 4, 2021 Posted November 4, 2021 Because before Virat married Anushka, she was seeing Ashwin. Vijy and zubinpepsi 1 1

Kulcha were a big upgrade over Ash/Jaddu. Once Kulcha lost their mojo first separated and eventually discarded for good. Tried other spinners like Krunal, Chahar. None of them were satisfying. They settled on Sundar finally as he could bowl inside powerplay which is a huge advantage. Once he was unavailable they went back to Ashwin. But i think Ashwin got his chance more due to the drama around Ashwin during Test series. To his credit he did his best. Problem with Kohli is, if a spinner gets hit around he will drop them. Jaddu has escaped scrutiny since he can bat and field well. Also he is used only in the middle overs. He doesn't hurt Kohli much without realizing he is not being useful either. Kuldeep, chahal can run through sides even in limited overs. 4+ wickets by Indian spinners in T20. Glaring omission is Jadeja.

It will knly happen once or twice in someones career in T20s. What matters is how many important wivkets you take in games. 2 or 3 crucial wickets is a better yardstick. Example Ashwin vs SA in 2014 SF. 3 wickets that prevented SA from running away with the game. He was really good that tourney. Could have won that tourney if Dhoni had dropped Yuvi. But no...kaptan and sentimental Indian fans wanted Yuvi. Paid the price dearly. Kohli deserved to win that cup.
