Pollack Posted November 5, 2021 Posted November 5, 2021 Not an attacking bowler. Doesn't bowl attacking lengths. Bowls fast when you need to bowl slow in these pitches. Usually a bit shortish.
vivek04 Posted November 5, 2021 Posted November 5, 2021 (edited) Its the selectors fault they choose him based on fluke ipl performances. Ordinary bowler with no real mystery. We used to produce excellent spinners jn the past. But now sena countries are producing better spinners. Ashwin is an exception. Look how zampa absolutely destroyed bangladesh and here our Chakraborty is still wicketless. Edited November 5, 2021 by vivek04
vvvslaxman Posted November 5, 2021 Posted November 5, 2021 Defensive bowler. He is focusing on not going for runs.
sensible-indian Posted November 5, 2021 Posted November 5, 2021 He didnt do much wrong. In a crucial game with lots to defend, batsmen will get out to his bowling. He aint the mystery spinner we all hoped him to be. But thats on us...not him.
GautiMaan Posted November 5, 2021 Posted November 5, 2021 Probably needs DK behind the stumps, like KulCha need Dhoni nevada and helperononline 2

straighttalk Posted November 5, 2021 Posted November 5, 2021 We should play rahul chahar.. if not why pick him.. i think he might not be bowling well in the nets
ShoonyaSifar Posted November 5, 2021 Posted November 5, 2021 I hope he is backed properly. Will not blame him for performances vs Pak and NZ. Worst time for a debutant to come into this team, which was (is) divided and disinterested. Will definitely do well under a new captain, who hopefully doesn't give him one over spells like his current captain and provides him better clarity regarding his role. rahulrulezz 1

Texan Posted November 5, 2021 Posted November 5, 2021 He doesn't have much mystery around his bowling, but can't fault selectors for picking him. His IPL performances were pretty good, so he deserved his spot. In the next game, we should pick Chahar. I think Chahar has a lot more potential than Varun.

Leaked runs, struggled to take wickets

And no, not having a leggie was the least of our problems, more so a leggie who had been leaking runs at 9 too in last 2-3 years.

He picks wickets also and it makes him important. Same with Chahar, although he too leaks runs. At the end of the day, you needed a leggie for some variety.
Rantzz Posted November 5, 2021 Posted November 5, 2021 Chahar was dropped from his IPL team. Same team that couldn’t even qualify for the playoffs what makes anyone think he deserves an Indian spot? selectors messed this one up Kothili 1
maniac Posted November 5, 2021 Posted November 5, 2021 Comes across as a fan contest winner who got a chance to be part of the team
sensible-indian Posted November 5, 2021 Posted November 5, 2021 (edited) 1 hour ago, BlueBlood said: We blame the guy when you give him the role of bowling to contain batsman in power play rather than taking wickets. Try bowling Jadeja and Ashwin in first 4 overs in powerplay and you will see they too will go wicketless in most games. The problem with the team is other than Bumrah no bowler can be relied upon to bowl the critical overs. So you have Varun taking over the role of containing in powerplay and then the pressure brings Ashwin and Jadeja later to get wickets as batsman try to score off of them in spread out fields. This is how teamwork should be. Unfortunately idiot fans like we have here in this forum don't understand that and will want to drop every player who don't fit their criteria of success. Same thing happened with KulCha also. Kuldeep was unreadable and players played him defensively which gave Chahal a ton of wickets. Instead, fans and TM thought Kuldeep was failing because he was unable to take wickets when in fact his contribution was a lot more significant in getting wickets. Back then we had prime Bhuvi and Bumrah to consistently keep applying pressure. Ever since Bhuvi started sucking, even KulCha fell apart. You are right theoretically and this is how teams should plan. But reality is a bit different. 1. Scotland gave wickets to jaddu cos they couldn't play him. Not due to pressure per se. In the middle overs, all the spinners were looking unplayable before Kohli decided to bring pacers and ruin the momentum. 2. Kulcha - In the beginning stages, Kuldeep was the better bowler but Chahal was backed more by Kohli. Later once they started getting analyzed by bats, Chahal found ways to stay in the game but Kuldeep lost it completely to the point where he was not even a regular in his IPL side. Kohli, Rahane, Karthik, Morgan, Shastri, Bmac - none of them picked him. All of them can't be wrong. Kulcha fell apart when batsmen started countering them. Edited November 5, 2021 by sensible-indian
sensible-indian Posted November 5, 2021 Posted November 5, 2021 Chahar is a theory pick. T20 is all about form. Is Chahar in form? No. What he might do in 2 years should have no bearing on his selection for crucial tourney games now.

Even half tracker specialist Shadab got away with good spells. Chahal would have been effective. Chahar was picked for his speed. But bowling faster is not the way you get wickets here.
