Pujara's first name is very complicated to a average white person to pronounce- so many Chinese/Koreans change their first name to an English one when they are in the west for convenience. Grow up dude

it's perhaps not racist taken in isolation but in the context of other more examples of racism at YCCC is deserves a mention. at minimum it is culturally insensitive and just rude. a player from overseas joins the side and you can't even make the effort to call him something vaguely similar to his name. how about Che, or Puj.

Rafiq has now been caught for making comments about Jews

 

Azeem Rafiq has apologised for using racial slurs in an exchange of messages with another cricketer, The Times can reveal.

In a statement to this newspaper, the former Yorkshire cricketer, who has been praised for his courage in exposing institutionalised racism in the sport, said that he was 19 and was a “different person today”.

However, The Times has seen an exchange of messages that appear to have been sent ten years ago between Rafiq and the former Leicestershire cricketer Ateeq Javid.

 

In a statement to The Times today, Rafiq said: “I was sent an image of this exchange from early 2011 today. I have gone back to check my account and it is me. I have absolutely no excuses.

“I am ashamed of this exchange and have now deleted it so as not to cause further offence. I was 19 at the time and I hope and believe I am a different person today. I am incredibly angry at myself and I apologise to the Jewish community and everyone who is rightly offended by this.”

2 wrongs doesnt make a right... if he is accusing white cricketers of being racist.. his anti semetic views  ( in public) doesnt help his credibility. Muslims in the UK arent saints- they cry racism but are the biggest anti jews/hindus going around.

I agree, but in my view Yorkshire CC has to be held accountable more than just taking away few international matches.. Guys like Vaughan and others who  look like closet racists have to go.

 

Rafiq looks like a complete bigot himself , let him get canned for it but Yorkshire and ECB cannot use this as an excuse. This is not about Rafiq, it is about future minority kids .

While its true that Yorkshire cricket did exibit an environment of racism. The Mirpuri communities that primarily inhabit Bradford are some of the most sexist/racist and conservative in the UK.

These new revealations do put unto question Rafiq's own conduct and expose him as a racist. And to make it worse, the excuse of I was only 19 and that he didn't even remember if he actually wrote what he was shown. 

 

As @Lord said it- it's a case of a racist accusing others of racism! Yes, the whole saga exposes Yorkshire for what has always been an openly known secret and hopefully leads to a thorough clean up with follow up actions against the various accused. But Rafiq himself will now struggle to come out of it without a blemish and with a huge dent to his own credibility. Wouldn't be a surprise to see more skeletons tumbling  out of the closet.
