 We can clearly see who are the biggest liabilities.  Current Captain, Temporary captain and current vice captain.  3/4/5.    Credit to our pacers away and spinners at home to make us look good. They not only had to bowl well also bat well in patches.

Unfiltered (though this one has a basic period fitler) stats are usually rudimentary and poor as:

  • Do not account for difference b/w away and home. Many players could have played a relatively higher % of game away
  • Do not account for missing tests in tough conditions
  • Do not account for batting positions
  • Do not specify the quality of opponents
  • Anything sorted based on runs or wkts is again pointless as the more games you play, the more runs/wkts you are likely to have  (if ppl do not know such basics why spent time on this)

Anyways if we take the OP's period criteria and go by 50+ score to innings ratio using the rudimentary unfiltered (apart from period) stats:

  • Rohit 6/21 -> 29% (even in his best form, he is not that far away from the rest, who are not even at their best)
  • Pujara 7/28 -> 25%
  • Pant 6/24 -> 25%
  • KL 2/8 -> 25% (others on this list have over 20 innings, so relatively a small sample)
  • Kohli 5/21  ->24%
  • Rahane 3/27 -> 11% = poor

tuk tuk sarma did exceptionally well ..

But also missed  difficult games such as the pink ball test in Aus and the 2 tests in NZ (others #s are impacted due to those games)

Rohit's opening in English conditions which was more favorable for seamers than anywhere proves what an invaluable contributor he has been for us in recent times. Not perfect like Root. But  he/Gill/Rahul saw off new ball most of the times only to see our middle order blowing it up big time.  On behalf of  @maniac

If I can dare say, our batting has started to resemble that of the padosi nation's one off late. If only this team can bat better, we would have maybe won the WTC final. :dontknow:

Who cares about 50s. Rohit s 30s as opener in treacherous conditions are worth their weight in gold. Easily worth 60+ runs each.

and 60s, 120s … 120s,240s … till you wake up!

We have the worst middle order amongst all nations in the world in test cricket. We had to carry their sorry butts consistently.

Absolutely. Full credit to our bowlers .

Actually for a change I do agree with these Rohit fan boys. Hes been our best test bat last 18 months, opening in tests is the most difficult batting position in cricket and its worth a lot more than middle order runs. There is a reason why you wont find too many openers, especially from SC avg more than 50.

Let us add a criteria. Rohit should be part of the match. Let us see how the others did in the same matches Rohit played. Boohoo. Rahane has done worse. averaging 19 lol

Boo *ing hoo, let's remove the India tests since they're the best conditions (new ball) for openers :hitler:

He has but he's also thrown it away when being set, what 4-5 times in Oz & at least 2-3 time since including the Eng tour!

The biggest change I see in him is that he's not forced, like pressured into playing a certain (attacking) way. He can just as well play an entire session without scoring runs & he won't be much affected by it, much like Sehwag in fact, but when set he's thrown way good starts at least half a dozen times is what irks me the most :whack2:

Of course others have been way worse, so there's that.

I am not saying he did not do well but players in their best form do a lot more. Talking about SENA tours. In the series in Aus, there were better batsmen (also missed the pink ball test). Went missing in NZ. Only in Eng, he did relatively well (Guys like Kohli have hit 3-4 100s in a series in Eng; Pujara hit 3 100s in Aus and almost single handedly made Ind competitive. Even in the next tour, he hit 3 50s in the last 4 innings, while producing a fighting knock in one of the first two tests iirc).

As for me, in this period, Sundar shines despite the small sample size in terms of reliability where he not only averages 60+ but also has a 50% ratio of 50+ scores.

Rohit has been good too. In terms of average ahead of some of the others, who are still competitive despite not at their best (Being ahead of others who are not at their best but still as much competitive is not saying much). At their best, these top batsmen were much ahead in their best series overseas.
